Of course theres an element of fortune mate.

Obviously praise the reactions of DCL but its fortunate in how both the penalty against West Ham & Swansea have rebounded out to an EFC player to stick it home.
Well,I suppose football generally needs an element of fortune or bad defending for goals to be scored.
Rebounding to an Everton player could also be seen as the Everton player making that opportunity for himself by reacting quickly.
Glass half empty?

He still scored one he missed and the other was a brilliant save.. and we still scored from it. I wouldn't say it's easy scoring pens when they are rapidly accuring. He buried the Anfield one. There's no other Everton player I would imagine would handle that pressure.

mad that two pens have dropped to us to finish though, its just another thing that's changed, we are getting the rub of the green, and I cant remember ever feeling like we have been lucky, like the two off the post against the barcodes

Wayne's penalty stats show one thing very clearly. He shouldn't be taking penalties.
He fails to score around one in every three. The reason he continues to take them is his status. He's so powerful at the club no one is going to stop him in Baines absence and even Baines return might not.
It was the same for a while with Lukaku. No one was strong enough to stop him despite his stats being poor and it eventually cost us in a cup semi final.

Baines has scored plenty of late goals, from the spot to get is a much needed point. Doesn't miss many. But I agree, took some bottle to take the penalty in the Derby. First one we've had since the 50's I believe?

Ye and baines should get them back alright. and I don't think it's a coincidence we are getting these decisions at long last now that the influential presence of Rooney is in the frame.

Rooney looked so much better last night when he moved deeper after Davies came on.

It's all about body position.

In the first half he was constantly receiving the ball with his back to goal, with two players marking him. As his touch was a bit off to say the least, and he doesn't have the pace to spin away anymore, it was hindering us and meant that Schneiderlin and Gueye had only the wings to hit as a forward outlet.

Once Davies came in and we moved to a three, Rooney was picking the ball up facing the goal.

At home, this is vital. It allows him to dictate the play and spread it out wide or into the forward areas (as he did for Gylfi's goal).

Away from home I have no issue with him playing as the '10' in a 4-2-3-1, as we are mainly counter-attacking and that suits him.

Horses for courses.
