Tbf I did pull that figure out of a mixture of thin air and my general biases against them both.Dont disagree with the spirit mate, but i think both came in at less then £30 mill as Billy was saying w were limited by the structures of the deals and that dynamic.
We haven’t bought an out and out goalscorer since Lukaku.
Yep.
Richy was bought as a wide attacker as well (that sort of inside forward role).
Criminal that we've neglected this part, even worse when its been clear as day Dominic Calvert-Lewin cannot maintain any run of games.
Correct palAbsolutely scandalous TBH - should have gotten someone in the Jan transfer window last year.... it'll be 18 months of missing the glaringly obvious in the team, and that responsibility largely lies on the shoulders of the club's executives.
14 million for Julian Alvarez from River Plate, obviously he'd have never chosen Everton over City but the point is that you can clearly still get some decent players for a reasonable fee.Realistically we can’t buy “quality”, we have to build them up and make them quality ourselves.
Buying “Quality”, often means buying someone established who’s usually at the top of their game, like Sigurdsson, Bolasie.
How hard is it to go to South America and sign cheaper talent, who can make an impact? Scour the lesser leagues like lots do, to find their gems like Leeds did with Gnonto or Brentford and Brighton regularly do.
We’re reactive instead of proactive and you can’t do that in this division.
Tbh I'm more annoyed at the wages we have thrown at a lot of bang ordinary players. If their agents were coming to us saying we want £££ per week then we should have just been telling them to do one. If it was us saying here take £££ amount per week then whoever was responsible for negotiating the contracts (seems to be a combo of Kenwright and DBB) then they should be ashamed of the reckless damage they have done to the club over the long term. Yes the recruitment has been poor but it's an even worse situation when you can't shuffle the pack because those poor players are on high wages.Nothing boils my piss more than our recruitment team the past few years.
Also west ham had actual money to spend on him instead of offering a loan deal even he if opted for us, every club is going to favor an actual transfer over a loan deal especially when that player is known to be susceptible to injuries and in his thirtiesBecause he declined our offer and chose to go to West Ham ?
If you remember Gordon himself was very keen to get in the team and wanted the game time. Also I think the reason he was being used so much is we have been devoid of forward minded players for a number of years now, whether thats creative/attacking CM types or actual wide players who can cross and occasionally score the odd goal now and again, and strikers who can find the back of the net. It's a problem that isn't new.Brightons current front line was assembled for less than 20 million, suitable recruitment along with properly developing players goes a long way. Even look how they introduce quality academy players like Ferguson, he doesn't start every game so the pressure isn't heaped on him , but when introduced he has clear responsibilities. Instead of just throwing someone at the dying embers of a game or becoming reliant on them like how we treated Gordon
