We haven't bought a quality forward since Richarlison

My worry with the Dom thing is that (hate to go all orange cat here) How do we know it's not coming down from the top? We all know how much of a traditionalist Kenwright is and he likes his old teams and probably wants that "Classic number 9" up top. How do we know he is not insisting the team be built around Dom as a figurehead? At the end of the day it is him that has the final say on transfers and I wouldn't put it past him to interfere, Sullivan is known to do it at West Ham.
i hate kenwright more than anyone but no way is that happenin. mate

Good post mate, couldn't agree more mate, its now a trend.

Both the club and us as fans are culpable.

I look at Gordon as an example - to my mind he was put into an awful situation by the club. Developmentally what he needed is what he is getting at Newcastle, playing without pressure and 30 mins here and there, putting work into training and then in games incrementally, in a year, year and half he could be dropping shapes. Thats what he needed.

What he got here was the hopes of the club resting on his shoulders, Richarlison sold, Dom not being able to string two performances together and the expectation that he had to create and score - as the singular hope of the club. He didnt and couldn't do that developmentally and because he couldn't he was abused, culminating in the lad wanting out of the club.

He may make it, he may not, but its becoming a well worn path at the club when it comes to young players.

If James Garner comes in, posts five bad performances causes a few goals, the cycle will begin again.

From a business point of view - you are bang on the money - its self defeating and expensive. We were prepared to give Danjuma 100k a week and 5 mill loan fee to Villareal when Gordon cost us 5k a week. Thats poor economics and desperation, bred from the trend i talk about.
I don't think lamps helped gordon either tho, he seemed to praise him like the next 'Messi' Which isn't great managing, especially for a kid his age..

Gordon needed more of a 'no snoods, shin pads on, bleeptest approach like Dyche is implementing. Keep players level headed..

Surely we wouldn't keep going with the whole DOF route if they were instructed on a percific style.
Than again like how they have played out previously it's possibly just a 'pretty' title to paper over the cracks of the clubs lack of progression.

Keep changing a DOF is just as bad as Manager changes ( or possibly worse )
The DoF is responsible for a lot more than just recruitment, that is just one area on its own, normally with it's own specialist team of scouts and data analysts and it's own head of recruitment who reports to the DoF. They are also responsible for the academy, the medical, the fitness, it's really just a large scale project manager role, overseeing the various departments. Some DoF's do seem to be quite heavily involved in the recruitment side of things and others like Thelwell seem to be more administrator types leaving it to others.

Moise Kean was signed.
No one had any idea how off the reservation siggurs would go, meaning a lost attacking midfielder with above average FK skills who'd scored goals and was froze out for the last 12 months of his contract unable to sell. Grim!
They did try for that Danjuma, we tried with Lookman, we tried with Onyekuru
Apparently tried for Giroud and Sarr.
ACL injuries hitting Bolasie and Townsend.

This stuff reads worse than the harshest Greek tragedy.

gordon jumped on the old gosling highway to the north east. What else has gone spectacular wrong? Besides Richarlison collecting dust on the bench at Spurs alongside Danjuma and they also wanted Deulofeo! It's amazing what we've spent and got so little back for.

And all this is before analysing the schneiderlins, Allans, Bernards, James', Lennons, and so forth. It boggles the mind!

no we coudnt they both said NO why aren’t you grasping this?
If we acted fast enough in the summer we probably could’ve got Ings, if we offered Leicester money in January instead of a loan deal we probably could’ve got him.

You really sound like the type of person who laughed at the idea of spending money on either of them

why when we needed a striker would i laugh? the clubs a joke that’s why we coudnt sign those

I'd try Simms with Gray off him. What other choice do we have? The club has criminally hamstrung our efforts to survive with a lack of forwards of quality brought in. Haven't bought a number nine of any quality since DCL and he was a kid then. A genuinely top quality one goes back to Rom. Awful and the scandal is the league is that average bar a few teams we only needed a decent forward to be comfortably safe. We go down its on the owner and board. I will keep saying that and tbh us much as it would be catastrophic and heartbreaking for us the fans, in some ways I think relegation is what Bill Kenwright, the board and owner deserve for their utter mismanagement of this club.

That’s always been a mystery to me. Given the stature of Everton we have had very few real out and out goal scorers going back many years. I’m talking a goal every other game ratio more or less. Lukaku was the most recent but before that I’m struggling to name one in recent times although my memory might be going. Has there been another since Lineker?
It's insanity

I suppose we dont know mate, but thats not to say that it has happened either - bit of reach in my opinion.. I would however out the blame on the sign off of Gordon and Richarlision at their door - i said at the time it was stupid selling Richarlison and it was a poor deal - i understand the reasons - doesn't mean i accept them though and the cause was of their making. Stupider still was sanctioning a deal for Gordon with no replacement in the bag. I refuse to believe we made 100 mill in revenue and couldn't get attacking options in the summer or Jan - many variables in that but those two deals regardless of your opinions of the players - was stupid decision making. Absolutely blame board/owner there.
We could have even used a loan spot or two that's what boggles the mind we go down there will be a inquest into how all of our financial and transfer dealings operate

Yakubu comes to mind.
