He's a good player Barton and he has matured in recent years, he would be an excellent signing for us. It's a shame that signing him remains highly unlikely, as he's exactly what we need.

A lack of "hard-case" wasn't really what went wrong v West Brom in my opinion. You could count the amount of times they got inside our area on one hand. If the opposition can't get near your goal then there's a good chance your defence and midfield is working. Of course, the quality of the opposition plays it's part too, but West Brom have carried a reputation as being a good footballing side for years now and the likes of Yacob and Mulumbu are big, strong players. Trust me, if we were bullied on Saturday, you would have known about it. We would have lost with how things were going for us in the attacking third.
Don't get me wrong, we do need defensive midfield cover, but nowhere near as much as we need a new striker.
IF Baines and Fellaini were to go, I would give Oviedo the left back position and spend big on a striker and defensive midfielder.

We'd be benefit much more from a Mulumbu type player than a Barton. Industrious, good, quick passer and can put his foot in. His discipline hasn't been great last couple of games but he's a player I like a lot.
