To score 3 goals and get a victory on the opening day after such a terrible pre-season (losing the most decorated manager in history and having death threats directed at our new manager) is quite something. I thought we’d lose but the crowd continued to get right behind the lads even when we went behind and the lads showed great character. So brilliant to see R.A.F.A. bonding with the fans too. My son-in-law works for Cazoo and he said that R.A.F.A. was jubilant and shaking hands with Blues hours after the match. Like everyone I had my reservations about his appointment but he gets Scousers and gets our club.
The fans were great today by all accounts.

It underlines what most have been saying here all summer: the various forums might have been chocca with fans declaring they wont accept him but the majority will be a lot more level headed and patient.

So it proved.

Brilliant start for R.A.F.A. and he really seems to ‘get’ our club. However, he will probably have to improve on last season to win all the doom-mongers over.

The tactics seemed to suit the players. Soton were generally poor tho. Didn't clap or boo him personally. Gray was a big plus, hopefully Richie will get a rest at nest internationals.. Not sure I'd play Holgate over Mina but a birthday win for me, think last time fell on my bday was 7-1 Arsenal so a far better day than that :).
Im not a Holgate fan personally and assume he thinks a partnership of Keane and Mina is too slow and if Keane was unavailable it’ll be Mina that comes in to play alongside Godfrey.
(This might be the pattern)

The fans of our club will always follow the team far and wide across the globe no matter who the manager is, its in the blood and to some nothing will stop them going the game.
He should never be here or even considered but i suppose for most fans the love for Everton outweighs the hate for Benitez.

Way too soon for this, let's see where we are after 10 games in. The first half was painful.

Much better second half, so I hope he got stuck into them and the tactical switch definitely helped, which I also really like to see in a manager - too many times our previous gaffers didn't have a plan b or were too stubborn to change systems.

The fans were good and showed that we are knowledgeable and support the team through think and (mostly) thin - although we don't have to like who is in the dugout (I certainly don't) it's clear the vast majority of us want Everton to do well and win games.

If Benitez is in charge and helps us to do that, he will be accepted and supported.

I don't think the question was ever if he knows what he is doing. He's proven that one. The question is whether he is a manager of Everton FC. He did work towards proving that today after the match, though I still think we need a longer data series.

Even if he does prove that he is in fact an Everton manager, I'm still going to call him FSW because that is just comedy gold.

We have a really difficult game coming up next. They will be desperate to bounce back after their thumping , and their fans will be well up for it (first game back at Elland Rad). If we lose then I hope that the doom mongerers don't come out in force.
Let's give him a chance and see how he does.

First 2nd half recovery from a half-time Goodison loss in SEVEN YEARS.

140 league and about 21 cup games!!!

Bobby and Andy Madley the 2 refs!!
