If the sacking was wrong then it would have been challenged. Has it? I'm genuinely asking?

Employment protection rights in this country are second only to Scandinavia. With all the fuss about the sacking she'd have had a tonne of supporters to offer her cash to challenge the dismissal decision. That's all I'm saying.

The fact the parents want to leave the country or the kid's dad has a dodgy past is not relevant in any way - all it does is dirty the water.

Perhaps, the overreaction of the parents to a meal that was removed and not actually eaten by the child had something to do with the way they treat laws applying to themselves...........

Excellent contribution.......

Bit of a leap, mate.

It's perfectly fine to discuss each issue, but to conflate the two seems pointless unless there's a specific agenda behind the reasoning.

That's irrelevant. As you concede there are a tonne of PC laws in this country. Employment regulations being key to all that.

if the dinner lady's sacking was dodgy then it would have been successfully challenged. If it hasn't been (in light of all the publicity) then the sacking was correct. That's all - you can't on the one hand argue we have a world that's too PC and then argue that someone was illegally sacked!

So my views are irrelevant. Where have I said that she was illegally sacked ?....

No of course not - everyone's entitled to their views. I took from your opening post that you were unhappy with the circumstances by which the dinner lady was sacked in the first instance. Is that not the case?

Thank you. Indeed I am upset with the circumstances because of which she was sacked. This country used to have a degree of tolerance for people who made genuine mistakes and no tolerance for people who deliberately broke the law. Now we have tolerance for those who deliberately break the law and no tolerance for those that make mistakes. The school and especially the parents, grossly overreacted to an event that was very probably not deliberate and as a result a low paid dinner lady has lost her job in uncertain times. The parents on the other hand will no doubt pack up their money, happy in their treatment of the poor woman and swan of to warmer climes. I just happen to think the whole episode stinks.......

Okay happy to have a civilised discussion!

I guess I'm trying to say that if the first sacking was in any way dodgy then surely it would be Christmas time for UKIP and the Daily Mail etc. The fact that (I think) it hasn't been taken to a tribunal leads me to think there's more to it and it was actually the right decision.

If it was a genuine one-off mistake and she properly made amends/apologised then I agree that does stink and I cannot see how any employer could sack her on that basis. The employment laws in this country are stacked in favour of the employee and with all the attention and supporters she's picked up she'd get decent legal advice for free. It'd be a PR win to do well at an employment tribunal and there'd be a bit of money in it as well.

On the dad's fraud yes of course that's wrong but I just honestly don't see how those two issues are linked.

Cheers

Dell Boy.

Besides the pure pc nature of the school, it's the hypocrisy of the parents that gets me.....I'm happy to deliberately break the laws of the land, but woe betide anyone who makes the slightest error against me or my family......pure hypocrisy

This just about sums it up. Bravo.

No it doesn't at all. Two wrongs don't make a right. The decision to sack the dinner lady was correct until proven otherwise.

Any fraud is wrong and against the laws of the land. I don't have all the facts of the dad's case (-do you?) so cannot speak as to whether he was dealt with fairly or not - I don't even know if he was charged or convicted or anything.
