I can see a draw here and that wouldn't be an awful result, but I've bet on 2-1 because I'm feeling oddly optimistic. They will be very tough to break down, so we have to score first and force their hand.

Browning has played a few games l, this fella is supposedly an International centre half playing against West Brom. If he's not good enough/ready for West Brom what games is he meant to play in to get himself ready. Carling cup gets more serious so it wont be that.

Its one of those games that we will struggle in. I sense a night of frustration and fume and this is one of those teams that pop up on the schedule from time to time, where you'll be left scratching your head and pounding the nearest coffee table.

We'll most likely hit the post a couple of times, have a goal wrongly ruled out for offside, pick up a serious injury, before losing to a crap penalty.

1 - 0 West Brom

West Brom 2 - 3 Everton

Welcome to the single worst match report you'll ever read, best read in the voice of Rhod Gilbert or Clive James. This is gonna be plagiarism-tastic....

John Stones was rested along with Seamus Coleman, in what I assume is preparation for Sunday's operation-get-Brendan-Rodgers-the-sack. Gerard Deulofeu started.

Following a reasonable start to the campaign, and still being in the League Cup after two potentially tricky ties, like someone with a few too many tattoos, this one had Everton written all over it.

Everton started, well, slowly. Not much to get aroused about in the first 30 minutes at all really. Might as well face it we're addicted to duds.

Like a pack of lobsters in a restaurant's tank, Everton attempted to go on the attack - hopelessly and uselessly. Harsh? Perhaps, yes, but analogies are what's getting me through this. The defence looked OK-ish up to this juncture, but we couldn't really seem to find a coherent and co-ordinated attacking strategy, apart from 'give it to Deulofeu' - no bad thing in itself, that, though.

And then just before half time, with some poor play from Gareth Barry and Funes Mori, and the defence in general, West Brom get a goal. Like MOT time at Volkswagen HQ, it couldn't have been worse for Everton. A real shame this, because I like Frank Skinner.

Half time. Poor on the whole so far. Just as well we kept hold of John Stones really, isn't it? I'm loathe to criticise Lukaku because while he has no first touch to speak of, I rate the lad - perhaps some criticism should be aimed at the midfield for not creating enough for him to slot home? Either way, the side needs to be more clinical attacking-wise.

For the second half, I feared Everton were about to grab their ankles. We just didn't seem to want it, while they were up for it. West Brom had a hungry look, the kind you get from not eating for a while.

Like Smooth Radio's playlist, Everton were all too predictable and went two goals down, with Lukaku getting one back soon after from a Deulofeu cross. I like the lad I have to say. I know he has his faults but I feel he's a good 'un. Everton were back in it, although the last time Everton won in the league after being 2-0 down was "that" match against Wimbledon in 1994. Would that change tonight?

West Brom appeared to be running scared of Deulofeu, but the rest of the team needed to match this.

Naismith's booking, and McCarthy's dive? No, I can't get my head around them either. But then I can't get my head around Arouna Kone actually being an OK player after realising he has knees that aren't made of spit, blu-tak and paper maché. 2-2 in a match where we really weren't at our best. It's at this point, I start to feel justified in my love for Lukaku, in that he's a totally different player and looks miles better with proper support.

Who's Assita? Have you had your flu jab yet?

And then total scenes, limbs, you name it, my love for Romelu Lukaku is complete, a goal to put us ahead in the last 10 minutes. He celebrated his goal which is unusual for him against a former team as far as I know, which for me means that he's a proper blue, as much as a millionaire mercenary footballer can be, anyway. I love you Romelu and if I was eight I'd pretend to be you in the school yard in footie games. That's high praise from a goalie, yeah?

Yes, we win from behind in the league for the first time since that day in '94.

So that's that. While I'll give the last word to tonight's opposing manager Tony Pulis, I'm looking forward to Martinez playing our best eleven players on Sunday and smashing Liverpool. Here's hoping anyway. Don't forget to make your work butties for tomorrow before going to bed. Please do not use foul language in this thread, or I shall be vexed. Goodnight Austin, Texas, wherever you are.....

I get the horrible feeling we will be dry bummed tonight. :(
bit of lube sir?......

why have people liked this post - it's terrible

1) would you say top 4 teams would be happy with 5 points from soton, swansea and spurs away with no goals conceded? because i would. you can't just pick fixtures for your argument.
2) massive pressure does not come 8 games into a season, unless it's a derby, in which case it's irrelevant what are results are before.
3) mid-table a lot of the time? we've been up at the top 6 most of the season - not that positions matter at this stage.
4) we did not play well enough to beat spurs
5) a statement of our intent for top 4 will come next month with our games, not by beating teams you'd expect us to do well against
6) there's no way we should be within the top 2 given our fixture list - that's bonkers talk
7) why are you speaking as if we've already draw to WBA regarding to who we're below (the table is irrelevant at this stage really) ...who knows, we might just sneak a defeat :)

This is ridiculous.

1) 'You can't just pick your fixtures for your argument'. You've then just picked three decent results we've had. Of course the top 4 would be ok with those results, in the same way they would not be ok with our results v Watford City at home and Swansea away. They would not be ok with our inconsistency and tendency over the last few seasons to draw too many games.

2) depends how you define massive pressure. Davek was talking about drawing to WBA a result that would leave us behind Rodgers' Liverpool a manager currently under huge pressure despite comprehensively out performing Martinez over the last 2 seasons. Yes he has had money and with that comes expectation but last time I looked our motto was Nil Satis. Draw to WBA then we'd have to beat Liverpool to stop them going 4 ahead of us. This is one of the prem's poorest Liverpool sides as well.

3) I'm talking about historically being mid table which for me is outside of the top 4 where we have resided a lot of the time. It's great being fifth but it wasn't good enough for Moyes and I don't see how we improve as a club if we don't aim higher.

4) exactly right, Spurs were woeful yet we just didn't even turn up for the third season in a row under Martinez at WHL. We set out for a 0-0 and got it, another day we lose 4-0 the amount of chances we conceded. That is not top 4 behaviour.

5) a statement for intent for the top 4 is not once s season home wins v United or Chelsea. It's beating poor sides home and away when the opportunity presents. We were good enough to beat Watford Swansea and Spurs but bottled it with non performances in two and cowardly finishing in the the other. Not top 4 behaviour.

6) we could easily be in the top given our fixtures. 6 extra points from the 3 winnable games I just mentioned puts us there easily with a game in hand. It's that sort of mentality exactly which stops us doing anything of note ever. 'Oh the fixture list looks tough, 6th would be ok' 'oh the top 4 are still left in the cup we won't win it'. Absolute utter rubbish. Why bother turning up at all?

7) daveks post said a draw to WBA was s good result, I was arguing why it's not. This is a team with quality all over the pitch yet we sleep walk ourselves into mid table because our attitude is rubbish. We have a great defence and a lot of firepower. We show that when we turn over top teams with ease at Goodison. Then a poor team like Watford roll up and we don't bother turning up.

We are supposedly in good form right now and relatively injury free. The top 6 are supposedly creaking. If we come out of this spell still behind them in the table what happens when our form dips and we get injuries and those sides suddenly hit form? We should have rammed home the advantage even with our tough fixture list because easy sides at home are not bankers under Martinez.

If people are happy with a season of 7/8th then fine but Moyes was churning that out with front lines of Kilbane Bent Osman Beattie McFadden. Why is it unreasonable to expect Lukaku Barkley Mirallas Deulofeu Stones and McCarthy to produce better?

We are under performing end of. Like I said I hope Martinez puts us on a long winning run but to do that you have to be beating WBA. If you're happy with mid table as long as the football has some nice passing then you've lost the plot.

Isn't your argument a touch underminded by City getting thumped away at Spurs and United being beaten at the Liberty stadium yet those teams sit second and first in the table?
