Haha i don't dodge tax mate i am not liable to pay tax if i work 180 days out of the UK (Offshore)

My rotation is 5 weeks on 5 weeks off.

Havent paid 1p tax in 16 years :)
Sounds to me like the smart way to dodge tax, if nothing else ;)

Kidding obviously, sounds like you've found a loophole that works for you!

Honestly mate yes its great but if i got taxed i wouldn't be doing this job as i might as well work at home.

My Mrs has said to me why don't i get my lad a job but i don't want him to, you miss so much of life that its not worth it mate.
I work all over the world and earn good money, its sounds glorious but its not mate trust me.

This year will be my first Christmas at home since 2020 i get home 19th December
Ive been at home for 3 of my birthdays in my forties and im 47
Ive missed kids Birthdays i missed my sons 21st this year luckily he was working himself so never really missed anything but still...

This is all time i cant get back.

Can you afford to retire early should you want to, at least, savings and all?

How's pension actually for your case?

12 days? I forget how draconian the US employment market can be. I’ve got six months full pay; if it’s longer and caused by work, I’d get pensioned off.
I can get an additional 60 days paid leave for FMLA per year. I have used it to help care for my mom.

But you are correct - time off in the US sucks. My counterparts at the hospital get 20 days PTO total. That is it. They get paid more, but doesn't offset the benefits my job has in my opinion.

Couldn't pay me enough to stand in front of a class full of angry at the world teens for 7hrs a day.

There would be carnage and I'd be surprised if I lasted a day
lollollol
We had the nastiest nicknames for every teacher. They must have known about them.
One teacher foolishly had left a bit of food on the side of his mouth after lunch and was tortured about it for a whole hour. First time I saw an adult cry.

You don't go in to civil service to make a huge wedge, the private sector generally pays more for the equivalent job but less in vacation (7.8 hours per paycheck for me, currently) and sick time (3.9 hrs per paycheck; stacks indefinitely but rate never increases) accrual.
This is how mine works too. 16 hours vacation and 8 hours sick leave every month. We can carry over 200 hours of vacation at the end of each year, excess is put into your sick leave. You never lose sick leave, but you also don't get paid for it if you leave.

I really should take more mental health days...
