What's the first major/headline news story you can remember?

I remember the 1992 election night and waking up next day to the results really quite vividly despite the fact that I was only just four at the time.

The IRA bomb attack on the Brighton hotel in am attempt to kill Lady Thatcher, I was in junior school at the time .

First test tube baby 1978. I remember reading about it on my paper round. Not sure why that particular event stuck in my head

When we discovered fire. I remember vividly it slowly appearing on the wall.

For me, I think it was the stadium fire at Bradford City vs Lincoln City, and in particular, some poor guy on the pitch and on fire near the corner flag, with others desperately trying to help him.

That memory always stuck with me, but it was always something of a vague memory, until YouTube... some 20-something years after. When I saw it again for the first time in years, it was just as I remembered it. A rapidly spreading fire, a jovial atmosphere turning quiet very quickly, police doing their best to help people escape; and that poor guy on fire near the corner flag...

Would've been something to do with the troubles I'd say, hard to pin point one story. I do have very clear memories of watching the news every morning around some of the darker days of the minors strikes actually.
