When will we win the Premier League?

When we start recruiting right.

None of these signing the “best of the rest” from the non-top 6 sides and cast offs from big sides.

Leicester sign young exciting players from abroad, we sign Sigurdsson for £50m.

They signed Tielemans for £20m, we signed Iwobi for £28m.

They signed Maddison for £12m, we signed Walcott for £12m.

They signed Evans for £3.5m, we signed Mina for £28m, Keane for £22m.

Not saying Leicester are the be all, but they are 3rd, sign high ceiling players for half what we pay, and ultimately have a good side for years.

We sign players at the end of their peak or past it for over the price. Result? A load of tosh like Iwobi, Walcott and Keane all playing and us ultimately losing to the likes of Borwich and Sheffield Utd at home.

So the answer is... 20+ years for me.

Sorry to say but don't think we'll win it ever again. The lack of ffp when Chelsea and City got their billionaire owners has put as too far back behind them. Liverpool also breached ffp but only got a fine, and then there's the previous Premier league dominant teams in man utd and arsenal who are also beyond us.

Ah I see. Lower leagues already have the EFL Trophy....or they did until the odd decision to lump the U23 sides from the PL & Championship in there so I can't see the need for another just lower leagues competition. And below that there's the FA Trophy and Vase for lower down the pyramid plus the County competitions.

I don't mind the League Cup though as it's competitive senior level football that young players can be given time in. A step up from the current U23 Development system.
Both cups with prem teams in are not taken seriously- in particular the FA Cup in my day only the few teams from division one entered it voluntarily- the the old Division 1 were told not only did they have to compete , but round 3 when they entered was a home and away affair to help the lower teams with gate monies ......
If the FA Cup now is rated lowly if the league cup went just to the lower leagues with no European place at stake - the FA Cup could be upgraded into the European cup qualifiers to give it its value back eg stronger teams would play like the old days as it meant something.....plying stronger teams if it had value......

Smells of Milwall all over again.

I've advocated this for a while now - outside of the "big 6" its becoming very tedious for the other 14 teams in the league who realistically aim for nothing but PL survival every season.

I think fans of your other 14 sides will eventually get bored of the status quo at one point so for me the League giving these teams a chance to actually win something may be a shrewd way of keeping fans on board.

The top 6 moan about fixture pile up anyway so keep them out of the League Cup and give proper clubs like Everton, Villa, West Ham etc the chance to win something.

Interesting that it would likely mean that next season it would be 6th only to get europe with the 7th spot taken by the league cup winner to qualify for europe.

It wasn't that long ago that Liverpool were finishing 7th with Jay Spearing in midfield. Sheffield United were in League 1 three seasons ago and may well qualify for the champions league this year. Leicester won it just a couple of seasons ago and are set for their second CL qualification in four years.

I don't agree with this never ending five year plan nonsense. With the right players, the right manager and the right crowd things can change very quickly in football.

It's unlikely but Leicester particularly showed its possible...alot of stars need to align though.... We would need to build a team and be peaking the season Liverpool and City have entered a new rebuild phase (the big clubs were all sleeping the year Leicester won it)... The Premier league isn't a great league, it really isn't... We have a great manager now, we just need to find the right young players, and a quality experienced player who can lead the team....

It's a long shot, highly unlikely, but not impossible....

Now that Liverpool are on the cusp of the title, and we have not won anything in 25 years, I have started to believe that I will never see us actually win a Premier League championship. I just completed Man City's documentary on Netflix, as i watched them lift the trophy and observed the joy and delight on the fans faces, I had the horrible sinking feeling that I will never have that experience, and watch us win anything. I was too young in the 80's to recall the glory years. Interested to hear your thoughts
Will be a while I think, but I’m glad I’ll never see Everton fans murder 39 innocents

Everything changes and our time will come - If Carlo is still in post then we'll win the Premiership in season 22/23 in our brand new stadium.

Look at it this way you have our neighbours, both of the Manchester clubs, Arsenal Chelsea Spurs, and i would include Leicester as well. That's seven teams, so it will be enough of a battle, to be consistent top six or top four finishers, nevermind competing for and winning league titles.Im pretty confident we can land an FA Cup League Cup, and perhaps the Europa League sooner rather than later though.Look at the NFL NBA or Aussie rules football. In those competitions, the poorest performing teams have priority draft picks etc, so in a few years if you get the recruitment spot on, you can build a championship winning team from rock bottom.

But in football everything is geared towards, making the strong clubs stronger, and to hell with everyone else.I still have the dream desire and hope, to see this great club become league champions again. But the sad truth is that the odds are not stacked in our favour. To quote the late and great Howard Kendall, the days of picking up a Mountfield and a Sheedy for loose change are over.

Decent players for sure, but Leicester are so incredibly reliant on Vardy. They don't get anywhere near 3rd without him.

Very true, you get lucky with some signings too, I’m fully aware.

Back when Liverpool were lumping £17m on Robbie Keane, £17m on Glen Johnson and Aquilani for £20m, we were signing Arteta, Pienaar and Cahill for £6m.

They were 24, 24 and 23 collectively when we got them, and we were able to nurture them into boss players.

I think getting money was needed to keep our heads above water but the recruitment policy since has been woeful. I understand football has changed since back then, but I’d rather see us pluck a Mirallas (24) with high upside than someone like Walcott who was pushing on the wrong side of 30.

When I look at players in the Prem, Maddison, James, Mephem, Webster young lads with a big topside.

When I see our recruitment I can’t help but think it’s so “Newcastle” it’s ridiculous. What I mean is Newcastle never sign young players to develop, they sign themselves a Michael Owen, Mark Viduka, Jonjo Shelvey. I can see where they are, and the success they’ve had since Robson left.

Vardy was a fluke, but they took that gamble, our gamble is on players in the decline, that’s what I meant.
