Where are all these Saudi clubs getting their money from?

Mo Salah will defo end up there, imagine the money they'll throw at a global star who also happens to be Arabic.

Whether we like it all not the Middle East and china are now the most advanced civilisations for the next 100 years. This is part of them showing it.
Brand new infrastructure. All of ours is creeking

Hopefully they take some of our players off our hands.
We will be a relative loser from an across-the-board external cash injection like this, because our squad quality has deteriorated under Moshiri.

On the OP's "Why?" question, I came up with two rational options. They may have some sort of plan to export cultural values using the advertising vehicles attached to the ventures. I can't see the how. I don't know if the problem there is that I'm not as smart as a billionaire sheikh's advisors, or if I'm smarter.

It could equally be self-indulgence crossed with asset diversification. Sure, they lose money on the deal. If they think green energy breaks or may break their business, though, it makes sense to hedge and position a smaller fortune to survive the headwind.

One thing I don't get: Why are players being offered 10/20 times their current salary to move there? Surely most would accept double, or if they were undecided three or four times. Mad how little money means to these Saudis and how much of it they've got to throw around.

If i had a job id deffo leave for double wages

Exactly! lol

There's no justifiable reason for immediately throwing 20x their salary at them other than the money means nothing to the Saudis and they are desperate for the attention that such a move brings with it.

Yes, many of these players have tens of millions in the bank already so don't need the money at all, so I could see how a simple doubling of the salary might not tempt them, but once you get to 3/4/4/5 times an already obscene wage... it's hard for anybody to turn down.

It's amazing what you can get done when you can simply jail or behead anyone who tries to get in your way
Let's also not forget that the Saudis were brazen enough to kidnap, murder and dismember a US citizen in EU territory, and completely got away with it despite more or less admitting it to.

I mean, just wow how the Premier League waved these people through their Fit & Proper Persons test to own a football team here.

They've been legitimised now by swallowing up every major sport.
Incredibly sad, isn't it? Seeing Formula One sell themselves to Saudi was galling, but football, as most of our favourite sports, going the same way is gutting. Money - it destroys everything!
