Which summer signings were a mistake?

any combination of 2 of the three number 10's, theyre all good in there own way but all 3 aren't as good as barkley, the priority should have been to tie ross down on a bigger deal ( think he can/could have been convinced to stay )

Regardless he is still injured!

One of them was fine. Buying Sigurdsson for so much money and then playing him in a role that he cant play looks madder each passing week.

Mostly good players but Klaassen looks like a mistake at the moment - the way we play would need to be turned upside down for him to be good for us.
Defence is the biggest mistake as it is currently shambolic, and it's an easier fix than replacing Lukaku (which bascially can't be done, although we could have tried like) - see the state of the back 4 on Sunday? My God.

..its looking like the mistake was the ones we didn't get as opposed to the ones we did get.

Exactly Eggs.

The dire end to the transfer window set the tone for the last month, and the performances/actions of the management, the playing staff and now even the upper hierarchy have all left a lot to be desired in that time.

I don't want to point fingers, as I think along the line everybody is as culpable as one another, but if we are to stick with a DoF system, then I'd like to see Walsh take some more responsibility and be a lot more vocal and engage with the fans.

Everton need to get their act together. On and off the pitch. When it comes to working in the local and football-wide community, we're the best there is. When it comes to fan engagement, we're incredibly poor.

We have a person in Alan Myers who would be ideal, should he so wish, to take up a role similar to what Tony Barrett has at Liverpool.

It shouldn't take much for a highly-paid group of professionals to realise that as well.

yes mate which is why I would have bought 1! probably Sigurdsson, he could and should have covered the number 10 till ross is back and then he can go on the left when ross is back, accompanied by barkley a pacey winger and a proper striker, then our attack looks good again!

It's kind of like he's playing players out of position, to accommodate other players that are also out of position!

Sigurdsson should be the player we build this team around.

He's 28, in his prime and a quality footballer - never mind the fact he's our record signing by a far distance.

Everyone else should fit around that.

Ross isn't a no.10. He's at his best on the wing with more space and freedom to roam.

We are missing him. But for whatever reason it seems he doesn't want to be here. People bang on about it but the fact also remains that he's injured so it's largely irrelevant.

On paper though, a three of Ross - Sigurdsson - Bolasie would be ideal.

Cuco Martina...... A championship standard player. Criminal from Koeman.

Davvy Klaassen.... Tom Cleverley would have offered more at this time. Suited to Dutch football. Will be back at Ajax within 18 months. Pure nepotism from Koeman.

Sandro Ramirez.... Kone or Naismith would've offered more at this time. Headless chicken at this point in time. Too few attributes to his game to succeed at the top. Nailed on to be back in Spain within 2 years. Lazy recruitment from Koeman/Walsh.

Jordan Pickford.... Will be a great keeper, but isn't at the moment.

Sigurdsson... Never a £45 million player. Big fish in a small pond at Swansea. Driftwood at Everton. Again, lazy recruitment for the money.

Vlasic... No better than Deulofeu at this time. Has shown some good things but not a 'for now' player. And yet again, lazy recruitment.

Keane... He will improve and will be a solid defender for us.

IMHO, Keane and Pickford are the only decent signings. Koeman and Walsh have performed appallingly in terms of recruitment this summer.

Most of the players we signed were bought with future in mind:

GK: Pickford (23) £25m*
CB: Keane (24) £25m*
RB: Martina (26) FREE
CM: Klaassen (24) £23.6m
AM: Sigurdsson (27) £40m*
AM: Vlasic (19) £10m
ST: Onyekuru (20) £7m
ST: Sandro (21) £5.2m
ST: Rooney (31) FREE

I'd have to go with Sigurdsson, purely because of the value, timing and lack of positional priority.

Bloody nora, some dung signed by us there, & some spondulicks wasted, good job we got a barrow load for Lukaku !!

The problem is not with the payers it is the formation they are asked to play in, we are trying to put a team out with 2 DMs and 3 number 10s.

If you were to introduce most of these players on an individual basis to another team i'm sure they would all look better than they do for us. Too many changes in too short a time without clear understanding of how they want them to play. Add in the fact we have no pace and no real number 9 and it all falls apart.

Unfortunately the biggest help to our season would be if there was an injury or suspension to either Gana or Morgs and then take out two of the three 10's we have. This would force Koeman into playing Mirallas and Davies and we could revert to more like how we were last season.

You can see how long Sissoko has taken to bed in at Spurs, some players just take a long time to find their feet and we have bought in a load.

Like many on here, I was quite happy with the signings we were making in the summer. Looking at our performances since, we obviously could have spent better, but which of the signings do you think were a mistake?

I'm going to go with Klassen. Signing him as well as Sigurdsson just seems like a waste of £24m and should have gone towards a CF instead.
I think signing four no 10s, and not getting rid of the no 10 we have wasn't our finest hour. Five no tens, and no centre forward, or cover for centre back or left back. Bravo Ron Ron

I was going to make a thread about this.

Having watched them all play now, the way I'd spend my 150m would be like this (based on players that were actually transfered in the summer and would likely come) -

Jordan Pickford (28.5m)
Michael Keane (28.5m)
Martina (Free) RB (can't argue with free)

And any of these guys depending on if they would come to Everton -

Iheanacho (27m) CF
Chicharito (17.8m) CF
Bony (18m) CF
Nasri (3.5m) CM
Konoplyanka (12.5m) LW - I rate this guy more than Yarmolenko
Arnautovic (20m)

A LB would be good to replace Baines, but I don't see one that would be available on transfermarkt that would have come to Everton.
