Which World Cup Was Your Favourite?

I've vague memories of the 74 world cup being on TV,but being only 5 years old I didn't really have any interest in it,78 was the first one I remember being really excited about watching, but with the time difference, never really got to see that many live games,so I'll go for 1982,I was 13 and would get home from school just as the afternoon games were starting, and I loved that Brazil team! 86 was a brilliant tournament as well.

Know what I enjoy about the older World Cups? It's a daft one but teams playing in their proper colours.
So true. None of this FIFA-inspired monochrome kit nonsense.

Another wonderful thing from past World Cups: the goal nets and posts. They were unique to the stadium the match was in, so you could recognise where you were without resorting to half-way line electronic "advertising hoardings" telling us what city we were in.

Mexico 86 , Brilliant world cup blessed with stars like Maradona ,Socrates , Butragueno , Lineker, Platini, Laudrup ,Sanchez, Plus first time and only time I managed to complete my panini sticker album,
I never achieved this, even with the English league ones. The closest i came was Espana 82, i needed just one sticker- the elusive Czechoslovakian winger Marian Masny.

2002 for me.

Brazil doing Brazil things.
Peak Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos etc.
Reinaldo turning up with that haircut.

Crying into my cornflakes as Ronaldinho beat Seaman from about 40 yards, but at least we got the morning off school.

I was at the age where I was beginning to understand footy more as well and was probably playing it more than I ever did in my life.

I think I just miss being 12 tbh.

1970 was incredible. The slight time delay in pictures and commentary as it was relayed from Brazil made it fascinating.
Or maybe i miss being 12 too!

Would I be correct in saying that the commentary basically back then came down a telephone line which was maybe why it sounded a bit crackly? I remember watching a few of the games in 1978(the evening ones in our time zone)and it really did sound like an event from the other side of the world!

As a 21 year old, one of the stand out features of that world cup was the camera man zooming in on some smoking hot women in the crowd.

82 was my favourite also, the location of Spain seemed to capture the party mood of the fans and as you say that Brazil team with Zico, Socrates, Falcoa etc were a joy to watch.
