Where's the "you, you tit" option? I'm way out of this and feeding off scraps here but as far as I can tell Rom has said he wants the board to "put up, or shut up". If they're prepared to do that AND he's prepared to stay afterwards then I'm all good. As we all would be. My one real worry now is if pride kicks in. The board are too proud to bow down to, undoubtedly, our best and most important player. Or Rom is too proud to stay for pointing out the negative vibes man, and having to walk past them in the corridors of power. Without a fence option then I'm as confused as most of you tbh.

I don't blame anyone. Things take time it's just the situation we are in. We tried to sign players in the summer and it didn't happen. We did well in January and now the summer transfer window is pivotal for us moving forward.

Fundamentally we have improved on last season in all areas on the pitch. The only thing I rue is the awful run before Christmas, if we had more quality in the squad that may not have happened but again I come back to the fact we did try and sign quality players in the summer and it just didn't work out.

In 6 months time we will know if we have the real deal or another set of pretenders in ownership. So far it's difficult to tell but I'm optimistic we will be happy with where we are going into the first game of next season.

Tbf to lukaku, we'd much rather he said this now and at least the door is still open for us to do something about it. He's saying he's not singing a contract extension, not that he wants to leave. We have the summer now to buy the right players and reject any advanced for him and then hope that next season's squad can get champions league. If not, we sell him for a massive profit and re-build (he's only one player and you'd like to think we'd only need to buy 1 or 2 by that time).

This is a much better scenario than him keeping quiet and coy on the whole thing and dragging it out for another year before then handing in a transfer request and giving us no chance to even tempt him to stay. That's what most players seem to do these days when they're unhappy, it's what most of them seem to do just because they don't see 100k a week as enough money.

In my opinion the board could 'put up and shut up' in the summer and have a great transfer window. But whatever happens and even if Rom signs his new contract I still think he will leave in the summer given the chance.
I think the type of players he wants us to get and the type we can realistically get with ffp taken into account with buying and wages after are two different entities.
He uses the Man City mold as an example and we could never do that. Rom just doesn't want to wait for us to gradually bring the better players in and I think he knows we can't spunk all that money in one go to try and get quick success. He is just using it as a feeble excuse to justify leaving when he could just say 'I wanna win things and don't think I can do that here end of' We all know where we stand from that, he gets sold at a price we want not what he wants and all parties move on.

Don't really need to blame anyone, all parties doing what they feel is best for them. Although it will be funny when we qualify for Champions league next season and whichever team Lukaku goes to finishes fifth so he pushes for a move to us.

The board are playing the necessary long game. Ffp, protecting the established elite clubs from any other neauvea riche like chavski or citteh crashing in on their party, means we aren't allowed to simply throw money at players and react as quickly as the impatient Rom would like.

Ffp is doing exactly what the elite clubs wanted it to do. Stint the growth of opposition and make hungry ambitious players want to move on. I think the board is being sensible. Like they say - Rome wasn't built in a day. If we lose Rom because of his impatience, then next year's star will be around there somewhere.

Its all very sad this. Us washing our dirty linen in public I mean.

Cant wait for an game of actual football v Hull on Saturday so that we can remind ourselves what its all about in the first place.

Up the Blues.

Cant blame the board at all, IIRC he wasnt happy when he was at Chelsea and wanted to play in the CL even then. The board are making steps forward, maybe not as fast as we want but even if he went to a champions league side i still dont think he would be happy since the chances are he wouldnt start for them everyweek.
Rom will always find a reason to moan, but as long as he is scoring I can live with that!

The fall out from Romgate has been bouncing around the forum, its hard to gauge the true feeling due to the volume of posts, just an interesting poll from my POV to see which side of the fence everybody sits on.

Ironically there will be no fence option, its a straight up brawl.

Option 1 - The Board - Lots of pie in the sky talk in the meeja, no doubt most coming from within the club, sometimes even quotes from Moshiri, promised war chests of 100m, its not enough to be a museum, monopoly money, Jim White chatting bubbles, certain posters on social media and fan forums blowing Moshiris trumpet. Outcome = A projected net spend of minus 8m over 2 transfers windows, ambition shown=ZERO, Stadiums built=ZERO.

Option 2 - Lukaku - A player in the form of his life, scoring superfotgols for fun, a young hungry player who wants to see the club progress, the actions of the Board are not matching the words from their mouths. A player showing ambition to kick on.

Now granted, the OP shows which side of the fence I sit on, but everybody has a vote, I realise theres loads of topics on this subject, but would be nice if we could gauge peoples views in terms of actual numbers, so hopefully this thread isnt merged for at least a day or 2 just to get a strawpoll.
Can we blame Davek?
