Ferguson works on passion. Passion only works for so long before you need actual tactics. That's why he REALLY needs to go somewhere to try out a team for awhile.
This argument gets thrown out all the time "needs to go and get experience" "needs to 'prove' himself somewhere else first"
I would argue that he has had excellent experience. He has worked closely with 5 or 6 (very different) Everton managers now. He has seen what does and doesn't work from each managerial style.
If he has learned well, he will take on board the positives and learn from the mistakes of others.
In most industries you will find that many of the best managers have served an apprenticeship with their company and worked their way up, rather than being 'head hunted' from another managerial position.
I am not saying that this guarantees he would succeed. I'm not even saying that I think it would be a good appointment. Just tired of all the "needs to prove himself elsewhere" shouts.

There are options our there who will make us better . Every appointment is a risk. Wolves appointed someone in the summer who people knew little about and they have improved a lot. Palace took a punt on Vieira and @Alan Whittle might confirm but they have also improved a lot.
Problem for us is those making the decisions are very poor at them
That's my issue. Our prerequisite seems to be premier league experience, when there are so many potentially good options for our club that will not even get a look in because they've never managed a premier league club.

We will end up with some antiquated dinosaur again because we refuse to bet on potential.

A Derby team with no money started - points and lost 2 key players and got them off the bottom of the table.

He be cheap and would unite the fan base. Who else we gonna get? Nuno/Lampard

It won't be cheap if we give him a 3 year contract then sack him after 12 months. I'd rather we went with Dunc until the end of the season, and then recruit for a permanent manager.

The truth is the most desirable options arent going to leave in season. I also think part of the problem has been in season hirings in the past. Dunc is worthwhile interim and would be understood if not a boost for the fans. I dont expect us gong down either (or improving drastically table wise the other way) so the seasons results aren't the clear priority.

More importantly is enticing a proper DoF over the remainder of the season. Set the project in motion prior to the summer where likely large outbounds like Richarlison, and internal improvement of maybe Gray, Godfrey, Gordon, Mykolenko (hopefully Patterson and Branthwaite as well) become the catalyst for the project. But they need a DoF first and foremost.

Rooney? I’ll always have a soft spot for him but as a manager I’d be surprised if he succeeds at the top level (can’t knock his efforts at Derby though).

The key for me is that it’s not “who after Benitez?”

It’s finding the right football strategy for the next 5 years by paying top money for a top Director of Football, and then with their judgement paying top money for a top manager.

From there, attracting good coaching, physios and scouts should be the focus. As well as that, recruiting world class talent on the board is a no brainer.

We absolutely need to stop the rot with our current “strategy”. The best thing Moshiri could do is pay the right cost for DOF and manager, and give them the chance to take us somewhere.

Through luck rather than design we’re in a position where this summer our wage bill should be healthy, we’d have a number of high value players (Rich, DCL) etc, and there’s a window to have two successful seasons by the time the stadium is complete.

Start again, communicate to the fans that the last 6 years haven’t been good enough, show that we’re putting the right set up in place to progress, and the club can finally succeed.

The funny thing is that we’re paying each manager a £10-15m each time, when we could just pay top whack for someone like Luis Campos and give him full control to find a modern coach to play dominant football. He has the credentials - if he’d even consider us who knows?!

After Koeman, Carlo, Rafael, Big Sam playing negative football (Silva somewhere in the middle playing boring football too), I think most fans want a manager who can implement an aggressive, fast, dominant style of play.

Or.. we could hire Ferguson who’s been a key member in a complete failure of a set up for years now. Love the man, but he’s not going to take us anywhere.

Personally I’d go for Rooney, I don’t think Ferguson has the tactics to get us results. We beat Lampard Chelsea on pure passion, then ran our self’s ragged without any real tactics and Ferguson himself said he struggled to cope

Rooney a long shot but he be cheap, up and coming and doing amazing work at Derby and would unite the fan base mostly.. otherwise your looking at Lampard or Nuno
"Otherwise you're looking at Lampard or Nuno" is the perfect justification for not making a permanent hire immediately - otherwise we're doomed to continue the never-ending hiring cycle of unsuitable appointments.

Unfortunately, Rooney's not leaving Derby whilst they're in the middle of a great escape - just look at his interviews to give an indication of just how committed and emotionally invested he is in the job. However, I reckon he would definitely jump at the job in the summer once his current engagement is fulfilled.

If Duncan doesn't have the immediate impact that he did last time, then it makes sense to pull the fire alarm and perhaps look to hire Kovac, hence why his employment for the rest of the season was predicated on getting some results in the short term.

So who do you want in this case?

My logic was that a couple of wins in the meantime catapults us up the table (which Dunc provided for us against top opposition last time), changing the dynamic completely where we aren't fearing an existential threat to our Premier League status - at which point it then makes sense to hold on until a) the club's hierarchy is restructured b) the close season will mean that we have a far greater chance of making the right appointment when managers (Rooney, Potter etc.) would be more inclined to leave their respective clubs.
Ferguson won 1 game drew 2 and lost a cup game , we turned up against Chelsea but got out classed in the other 2 league games but scrambled 2 draws lets not make it out he was that good

Posted this in the other thread by mistake - "An update on a permanent replacement will be made in due course". Almost makes it sound like they won't be having an interim manager.

Agreed completely on the fact the boards priority should be hiring a DoF. Considering the timeline they should make the time (the rest of the season if need be) to get the proper person. Any manager appointment without a DoF is repeating the mistakes and would make me worried.

In terms of options I dont think Luis Campos is likely. His pedigree will warrant I think a larger profile club. But you make the call. Dan Ashworth of Brighton who I thought got the Magpies job would be a great hire (especially in any attempt of hiring Potter). And I think Stuart Webber at Norwich and Phil Giles at Brentford deserve a phone call. Along with maybe academy director Jason Wilcox at Manchester City.
