People are right to laud Lampard for getting a club like Derby County to the Premier League play-off final. They’re also right to laud him for guiding Chelsea to a top 4 finish without being able to sign a single player due to their transfer embargo. He got them to the FA Cup final that season too.

BUT… has he got the requisite experience to arrest the seemingly terminal decline of a team that is literally losing every single week. Can he get arguably the worst squad in the league out of the bottom 5 when the likes of Newcastle and Norwich are now breathing down our necks and are spending a fortune in this transfer window? At this stage don’t we need a relegation specialist to do a rescue job? Someone like Big Sam but preferably not Big Sam. Let’s be honest: this is a very different job to Chelsea, albeit Chelsea had just sold their best player (Hazard) before Lampard had arrived and of course couldn’t sign anyone as I’ve already said.

Laud him for getting a team like Derby 6th in the championship!?!?!? Exactly where they finished the season before, with Gary Rowett. Wow. And 4 places better than Cocu year after, the dude with worse ever record in prem. O, and he got a gift from Chelsea in the form of Mount. Did a job hundreds of managers could have done.

What he needs to do is out a kit on and play in our midfield. Immensely sad, but he would probably still improve us slightly :(
I was discussing with my lad the other day, can you think of any other midfielder who is the top scorer ever for their club? Amazing player. What a spine that Chelsea team had with Cech, Terry, Lampard and Drogba.

Not got time for anyone who isn’t behind Lampard after all the crap we’ve been subjected to the last 6 months, both from the manager and the board/owner. We’ve finally got someone worth getting behind, and we’re in a relegation scrap so unity is required. No more grumbling about the manager. Happy to see continued protests against our board and Joorabchian mind.

He may not be the perfect choice, but personally all things considered he's a good choice and a character who I think we can all get behind.

As you rightly mention, right now we need unity and to support the club and players rather than the toxic, self-defeating atmosphere that's been rife as of late.

Some of the comments on here and elsewhere make me cringe - far too much negativity and bile.

Let’s not go talking smack to those that don’t agree then

Coming around to the idea now. Wasnt my choice, potter was, but that ship sailed when this club became a basket case. Some mad comments about lampard already. Esp the look what tuchel did at chelsea when he took over. The tuchel of 13 years a manager at clubs like dortmund and PSG yeah. That tuchel? What a shock he was more experienced. Who'd have guessed.
Buying into the lampards still got stuff to learn thing. Might just get a positive hungry vibe around this place for a change with a younger fresher ideas manager. Everything this club wasnt under benitez.
He still has a major issue. This squad. So many dead wood players. Defenders who cant defend.
Lets just stay up. Then see about clearing the iwobis gomes keans.... out the door.

Like I said, he's not the ideal choice even for myself, but I'm genuinely curious who, out of those the club look able to appoint, people would prefer.

Unless there's a more viable option, I don't think it's unfair to wish people get behind our (potential) new manager rather than continue with the toxicity.

What's that going to achieve?

Its nice to be getting somebody on the way up who won everything as a player. A name that hopefully can attract players and motivate the ones we already have.

I hope he requested an enormous Rondonapult as part of the negotiations also and plans to fire him into the Mersey at his unveiling.

what a huge decision we just made. Not my choice, but welcome Frank, I really hope you do well or we’re in for some seriously dark times.
As long as everyone is joined up on what success looks like…
Personally that would be to stay up this season then next season onwards to see progress being made in league position, recruitment, work ethic from players and style of play. BUT he needs to be given time.
I’d love nothing more than to see us stick with a young manager and us all get behind him and trust him to make continuous improvements.
- then back to reality?

Those bringing up his ropey stats for Derby and Chelsea forget to realise they were his first jobs in football management. If you look at some of the great managers over the years, very few of them started off with great returns from the off. He’s young enough to learn from those jobs and improve as a manager with more experience.

He might not of course, nobody truly knows, but there’s every chance and it’ll be exciting to see how this pans out.
This exactly. Antonio Conte was relegated to Serie C in his first managerial job and then was chased by Atalanta fans leaving them in 19th place.

I think what people need to understand is Everton arent an attractive proposition right now, relegation fight, poor squad, likely the PL dictating our transfer budget. Safe to say we arent attracting the Tuchals of this world.

To be honest there is a part of me that wont be happy until Frankly is confirmed as im jittery that he might look at us and think its to big of a massive job. We have potential but we have to wade through a lot of adversity and hard work to fulfill it.

Therefore im happy with a manager of potential, i feel when i first heard his name i wasn't blown away, but then i thought to myself half our problem is our expectations and thinking we are something we havent backed up, Anceheloti'a etc are a few rungs beyond what our developmental needs are. We need to build and go up the rungs of the ladder incrementally.

Im happy to go with a developing manager, im happy to leave him alone and build, i think he should be left alone for two years, relegation or not. There needs to be a ground zero. There needs to be building and growth, consistently and stability.

Ive listened to Frankly talk about the game, the lad is a very clever lad, very clever. He is a developing manager, he will make mistakes but im going to back him for that reason. The one quality i really like about him and always admired as a player was - he wasnt a straight out of the box star - in fact he was talented but limited player, with a good family name and connections. I tell you this though he maximized every inch of talent he had through sheer hard work and determination, read about him if you never have - he went beyond most players. His Dad if you ever read about him did the same and obviously influenced young Frankly. That quality enthuses me more than anything, and to be honest excites me. Im totally prepared to back him for two years - full support - without reacting game - game.

We all need to grow together. But as a fan base we need to cop on. Avoiding relegation this season is an achievement given the context, mid table next likewise then we go from there. Lets not look for the quick answer any more - lets get back to having an identity, lets get back to being a club of substance, lets get back to not being a laughing stock.

Growth, development, patience, consistency and stability need to be our watch words.

God ive missed Everton..
