Why do Americans favour Everton?

Do I take it many of you here are LA Galaxy fans?

Columbus Crew fan here.....

Landon is the U.S. best player so everyone who likes the yanks should like Landon.. "not always the case" Landon has his haters in the states, but I think alot of it was because he failed in Europe..
People are starting to come around and they want to see him stay BLUE (y)

Everton is the only team besides the big 4 that we here about here. Unless somthing big happens.

To be an Everton fan, you have to have a nervous disposition, a twitch in the left eye, weak heart and once you have overcome those you will be able to withstand the roller coaster ride of supporting Everton. No other team can lift you so much and at other times send you into deep depression.

Some how we all survive and come out thanking God for showing us the light that is Everton FC.

I'd had my eye on Everton for a few years. I thought if I ever got "into" going for an EPL team, it would be Everton because I like the style of soccer they try to play, they're hard working, are honest and give ultimate effort and try to play beautifully - and it succeeds more often than not.

I love how you don't try to buy your way to a championship so that when you have success, it truly means something.

What sold me was that you give our American players a chance. They are not pre-judged but come here with a clean slate. You support them as if they were Blues from birth.

I love the intelligence of the Everton fan. You don't waiver your support for your team or individual players from week to week. You accept that there will be ebb and flow, ups and downs, but the overall class is there. You see the subtle things that players contribute and you appreciate it.

You also wear the most beautiful shade of blue I have ever seen.

I've been looking for a team although honestly the Donovan thing helped. I didn't want a big four team but I don't hate myself enough to be a Hull fan or something along those lines.

To be totally honest I think it will be clear how much I've really become an Everton fan when Donovan leaves. Will I want to wake up at 6:30 to watch Everton play Burnley away? I think I will but its a different situation than I'm used to cause all my other favorite teams in different sports I've been a fan of for as long as I can remember.

But I've always hated Liverpool, long before I ever considered being an Everton fan. Which helps, I guess.

being an american it's quite simple... out of all the teams in the prem, Everton appreciates a footballer for his skills and aren't tainted by his country of origin. Many of the other teams across different leagues have what we call a "Eurosnob" attitude towards American players (especially the big clubs) - they think that American players don't have skill because they come from a land of baseball.

... which is a shame and complete misconseption because soccer is absolutely huge in the United States despite not being our national passtime. Heck, I played since I was 5yrs old and even for my University (and could probably school some of the Eurosnobs across the pond... just sayin b) )

I heard the Bayern Munich fans were not that welcoming of Landon Donovan.

But then again, I went to Germany for a couple of days and they weren't that welcoming of me either...

i think it's more down to the way the team is, were not rich
as half of the clubs in england but when it goes to success
were up there! we give players a chance /rodwell/gosling etc,
alot of young talented players, Howard/Donovan also with american
football not being so popular i suppose there more likely to go for everton than any other teams with american players, attitude of the players is also very good, we dont have no drogbas/barton etc,
ALTHOUGH WE DO HAVE JOHNNY!! and we cant forget moysey! (y)
all the reason if your american or not everton is the way forward.

theres quite a lot of everton coaching connections in the states so ive read somewhere.

everton has also had its fair share of american players in the past decade... landon donovan , joe max moore , brian mcbride , tim howard , anton peterlin , cody arnoux , sylvester stallone (whens he coming back ? (y)) .(almost signed micheal bradley the other year too)

i think moyes has signed players of quality from all around the world with a purposs of branching out the everton name into untapped markets.
thats not a bad thing though , look what you lucky people are welcome to be part of and have been missing out on.

I think the title says it all lads.
Even before Donovan, we had a good support from the American folks.
Is it because we toured there?
Is it because we were underdogs for years but still managed to scrape a bite of the bone?

Pray tell. :)

I've always had a soft spot for any EPL team with Americans -- followed Blackburn, Manc City, Fulham(erica) for just that reason. But I've really been watching Everton closely since Timmy joined, and I feel the same way about the club as Donovan apparently does -- it fits. Great old ground, passionate fans who have seen their share of heartbreak (I'm a Cubs fan; I know about that), classy team with blue-collar roots but enough skill and flair to play attractively. Cahill has been one of my favorite players for a while, and I really enjoyed watching last season's FA cup run. And of course, Moyes is just an outstanding manager --he's a straight shooter, he's not afraid to let his players have it with both barrels (behind closed doors) when they're not getting it done.... and it's unbelieveable the results he manages to squeeze out of the team despite some horrendous injury problems.

I've played soccer in the US for about 35 years now, and have spent a year in England and several months in Germany, so I'm acutely aware of how American players are viewed across the pond. I appreciate the fact that Everton was willing to take on Peterlin and Arnoux and attempt to develop their talent despite the fact they're American. But signing Donovan was really icing on the cake. I've been watching him since he was a young punk with bleach-blond hair, and he frustrates the hell out of me sometimes, but I do think he's the best this country has produced so far, and it's great to see Everton and its fans give him a fair shot.

OK, this being my first post and all, it may be presumptuous to say this, but....COYB!!!

I'd never followed soccer at all until this summer (outside of the World Cup every 4 years). After the USA showing in the ConFed Cup, I reckoned I'd pick up the sport. I wanted to follow an English team, and the fact that Tim Howard was a Toffee made my decision easy (I knew enough not to jump a big 4 bandwagon, and thank goodness he didn't play for Pompey). So my conersion was very easy.
