And that worked because Osman and Pienaar are creative link up players who can distribute well. Again, the problem has been creativity around him rather than the midfield itself. The reoccurring theme when Felli and Rodders played was always good possession but no cutting edge as we had no width and Cahill just in front of them.
Additionally, Fellaini has also played well with Neville or Heitinga just sitting behind him. He covers more ground than almost everyone in the team because he's up and down. That works better when he has a player sitting and covering him when he ventures. But it doesnt work so well when there's no creativity on the flanks or in front of him...which is why he's been hit and miss with Rodwell...Rodwell looking better of the two because of it.
Felli and Rodwell hardly ever lose the ball when in possession. The old "they just pass side ways" is true...but the difference now is that we have Drenthe, Donovan, and Pienaar out there so its no surprise Fellaini looks better because, even without Gibson IMO, he has better players around him who can pick him out or vice versa.
The Felli/Rodwell partnership will look twice as good with Donovan, Drenthe and Pienaar in the mix IMO because Rodwell offers more than just sitting like Gibson does (so far).
When Rodwell comes back, I'd much prefer Fellaini, Pienaar, Rodwell midifeld with Pienaar in the middle of the two. Cahill doesnt offer much, and Rodwell hasnt been let of the leash further forward.
It wont happen. But overall, I wouldnt say Gibson is doing anything special to boost Fellaini. I'd say its more the support on the wings giving the midfield more balance than just the 1 player. Bringing Rodwell in would boost the midfield even more.
Rodwell out wide right hasn't really been one of Moyes' succeses has it?
thats true, he was the best in the world at the time up there with true greats in the game,Accurate observation there sir. But then again no-one comes close to the Big Man.
i thought he did really well to say he hadnt played much footy this season, not going to go well with some people but i think we are missing osman, we might see some decent footy when these two team up, snappy passing and high work rate might give the fowards a bit of space and service, hope he is back before donavan goes home or are footy will sufferPienaar played well, I've nice feeling about his return
Better players out wide and in front of Rodwell - has he ever given the impression he's one of those players who can pick out a pass? I think he's a cool player who can keep possession in a congested part of the pitch. The problem is that Fellaini does that in spades. I think we have much of a muchness in CM when they make the two up. Fellaini has to be the anchor in there and a more quciksilver player has to play off him and be the creative spark for others. Pienaar could do that.
On Gibson, TBH I dont know what we have on our hands there. Time will tell. As for today's performance: he did a job but was nothing special. I think he looked a bit heavy legged and maybe he's felt the pace after playing two full PL matches on the bounce in 4 days...something he's not used.
So you went to todays game? My bad then.
So what do we think of Jelavic? I didn't see alot of the second half because my stream was messing up.
Is he going to be better with two upfront? Or as a lone man
