Rafael has a knack for making good players bad. A few that come to mind are Bellamy, Lucas (who, most might not remember, was once the Brazilian Player of the Year), and currently Maxi & Babel. Kinda surprised in Maxi's case given Benitez's Spanish style of play.

Its not Spanish style, Martines is way more emblematic of Spanish style. Liverpool has much more in common with Hughes Blackburn sides.

I read an article not so long ago (november 2009?) and it gave a stat that on average Benitez would in his time, have signed one player every 8 days 16 hours.

And even doing that he's got a pub team of numptys!
