I once took a hedgehog to a 24h vets because one of dogs got at it and left a wound, felt a but guilty. The following afternoon got a phone call from them say "your hedgehog is available for collection"
The back of our house is on a corner of a differnt cul-de-sac so I planned to release it in the bushes next to it. As I was climbing over a small wall, a mum and small child (she was probably 4 or 5) saw me, probably thinking who is this scruffy bearded man with a dirty box and why is he breaking into houses, so asked me what I was doing.
It's amazing how quickly the phrase "releasing a hedgehog" can change a person's perception from "predatory nonce" to "would you like to see the animal in the man's box?"
