Wildlife in your Garden

Went for a run along Oglett Shore yesterday and I saw more Skylarks than I`d seen in years.

Sounds mad, but I`d actually forgotten what they sounded like, as I`d heard them that seldom in the past few years.

Cracking little bird to watch as they soar high into the sky singing.

I`m guessing people not trampling all over the fields that they nest in and hardly any rain has played a part in their resurgence.

I remember when every field seemed to have a resident pair :(

One bird I haven`t seen for years now, which used to be common, is the Yellowhammer.

See plenty skylarks and yellow hammers up my way. Great birds. You could be right about the trampling there.

Curlew will up on the moors around Clitheroe Joey too, as that’s where they nest ;)

Lovely part of the world around there - Trough of Bowland.
Happy days for me & my good lady plus our new son - to think we would hike ten miles up there oh to be young again - I was on poor pay probably the happiest days of my life in those 3 years - plenty of herons about too on Downham estate - most favourite ride out was Clapham and Ingleton up there - We walked all over the place up there -
had a cup of tea in here -
not far from Clapham where a retired headmistress bred Ducks in Clapham - they used to walk into the village pub - Gods country -

Considering how beautiful it is around there, it’s bizarre that it’s not really an area that’s on the map for tourism.
