I'll keep an eye on it and be mildly pleased for a min or two if England win/good result and be mildly irritated for a min or two by a bad result/loss but nothing beyond that. I might watch a game or if I have nothing else to do but I definitely won't be going out of my way to watch any of it. This whole tournament sums up the worst of fifa and modern football. Fifa would've given the world cup to peek Nazi Germany if the money was on the table.

That being the case I assume you live your life in Wales?
Serious question as you’re a border town so pretty much half English half Scottish by DNA, do you cheer on Scotland sometimes mate?
A lot of people say this but I feel like actions don't exactly match these words. I have an English friend who is a diehard Chelsea fan and he is the sort to always say "club > country" and how he dislikes the international football, yet whenever a Euros/WC rolls around, this guy tries his best to get tickets/flights to these tournaments and is one of those people partying after every England win.

Around 800,000 English people travelled from England to France to watch the 1998 WC actually.
This is accurate. Watch how the passiveness towards England (from those who don’t call them out on here) diminishes should England win a few games. Then the St George avatars start turning up and this seemingly unarsed posters turn into huge three lions fans who throw scouse slurs at the “Scouse not English” locals on here.

Last two tournaments on here have ended up more like a Tommy Robinson tribute forum. Hideous glory hunters worse than any kopite that’s ever posted on here. The English.

On the doorstep being a 4 hour flight to a stadium built on the bones of dead slaves in a desert where it's physically impossible to play football without planet-killing airco where nobody can vote and being gay is punishable with a brutal prison term.

maybe that little lot has something to do with it.
Those who live in UAE shouldn't worry too much abt the human rights or fortunes of those who built football stadiums, given where they live.

It’s a real shame the collective cynicism, rampant corruption, historical failure and modernist rebranding of nationalism has robbed you of the ability of enjoying the innocence of the World Cup, when winning it would etch itself in your cultural ethos and restore a real pride in your colloquial identity.

AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE OY OY OY

Grew up fanatical about Everton and england ...
Gradually fell away from England as it got more rs infested, concluding with that woeful showing where hodgson basically took the Liverpool team that had just capitulated in the league and were mentally shattered as well as gbh leg's being gone...

I don't mind watching them these days but it doesn't really bother me if they lose.. ..

Wish I could say the same about our lot tbh

Basically, you hate nationalism, you love localism. Scouse not English? Yet you hate half the locals that don’t support the same team as you.
If you can’t see that it’s as weird as nationalism and almost as contradictory and divisive as Tommy Robinson political.
Are the swedes, Brazilians, etc racist for supporting their team?

IRA chants, German bombers ect can get in the bin, but having a few beers watching the World Cup with your mates and family members ( that support different teams), wanting England to do well is surely a rational position to take.
Hating England is basically the extremist side.
Imagine taking that view during world cups in your youth and not enjoying watching them.
Their are plenty of reasons to oppose this World Cup. When it comes to not supporting England due to extreme localism it is just Micro nationalism - expressing differences with outsiders.
Every tournament- same debate ???‍♂️

In the same way that poor behaviour in general society is often labelled as 'Scouse', stupid behaviour as 'Irish' etc, it means absolutely nothing to me, it says more about the person using such tropes than it does about their intended target.
It’s not the 70s - never hear that these days
