Will you be supporting England in the World Cup?

How will you enjoy this World Cup buddy?

I would answer that by saying that supporting a football team has nothing to do with politics, or at least shouldn't.

You can be community minded while supporting a football team/player, rugby team/player, cricket/cricketer, golfer, tennis player, bowler, ice skater, runner, pole vaulter, etc. that doesn't necessarily come from your own community or has spoken against any political injustices against the community.
Oh it’s not just the politics, it’s the monarchy and the people too sir. Evertonians widely reject England and I respect their decision on that.

So do I as that is their choice. However, it works the other way around.

However, I would be generally interested to see if those that use that reason to not follow a football team do support other England sporting teams/people and if so, what makes football different to them, in relation to politics, monarchy, etc.

Fair. The ones I know won’t support England in anything at all as they see it as an affront to being scouse.

I am sorry you may feel this way sir. Let me assure you this was not my intention.

I am keen to understand why England fans would choose a team from an area that resists England because of England’s hideous treatment of that city throughout the ages.

Everyone is welcome to feel how they feel. I think think identifying with your community rather than a foul imperialistic oppressive state is more real and healthier.

Every football match, and sports event I tend to side with someone.
By choosing to be anti your own country (and I’m assuming it’s your country) seems a little strange.
Politics don’t come into it at all.
I didn’t associate with the masses during mourning of the royal family, but for some reason world cups, olympics and the last common wealth games for example are a great leveler.
The English have a real problem with patriotism - it’s either stolen by racists or tories - in a way that the Irish, Scottish, and other nations don’t. I don’t witness French fans celebrating and instantly think of their politics and colonial past.
It is each to their own. I refuse to carry the guilt of the history of a nation and just want the football team to do well.
Not bothered outside of tournaments either.
Like I said think we discussed the same thing two / four years ago. Each to their own!

I get what you’re saying but most scousers are revolted by the behaviour both present and past of the English both in this country and overseas. It’s hard to be proud of the country you’re born in when it’s an imperialist pain spreader and your fellow fans are dull, knight dressing, cafe attacking home county tits, many of whom don’t like scousers.

Those two countries you mention are full of self depreciating compassionate people I feel more in touch with than the English. And both of those counties have been invaded, oppressed and still occupied by the English.

As you say each to their own man. I just wanted to explain such a stance by scousers despising England.
