I am English by chance of birth so wil look out for England’s results.
but because of Qatar, I won’t be watching.
Can understand this. The World Cup feels wrong ethically, traditionally.
The hype isn’t there either because sky and bt are only pushing the domestic leagues cos they have no coverage.
Newspaper writer haven’t got time or print space to continue covering the premier league and the England.

There’s a 38% increase of domestic violence when england lose a football match.

Just saying
Bet if you broke that down to big club games you’d get similar results. A stat without context.
Eg - Hull get to a playoff final - hull fans drink all day and lose. Domestic violence amongst hull fans up significantly.

The good thing about this World Cup for England is that you're very unlikely to see the working class chavs travelling to Qatar and causing chaos like previous football tournaments. I would assume much of the fans would be the white collar expats from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Saudi, Qatar etc instead so the atmosphere should be good for England.

I don't want to risk me committing domestic violence because a football team lost so I guess I will have to stop supporting England, just in case I will not support anybody and not watch any football, should I stop watching rugby?

I'm struggling to care about this World Cup to be honest, but I guess I'll support England in the loosest sense
I'd like it if England won, not really arsed if they don't, I get quite relieved when they go out as thew hype stops and I can enjoy a footy tournament for what it is. Its 2 1/2 weeks of footy without the jeopardy of Everton losing, what's not to like?

Basically, you hate nationalism, you love localism. Scouse not English? Yet you hate half the locals that don’t support the same team as you.
If you can’t see that it’s as weird as nationalism and almost as contradictory and divisive as Tommy Robinson political.
Are the swedes, Brazilians, etc racist for supporting their team?

IRA chants, German bombers ect can get in the bin, but having a few beers watching the World Cup with your mates and family members ( that support different teams), wanting England to do well is surely a rational position to take.
Hating England is basically the extremist side.
Imagine taking that view during world cups in your youth and not enjoying watching them.
Their are plenty of reasons to oppose this World Cup. When it comes to not supporting England due to extreme localism it is just Micro nationalism - expressing differences with outsiders.
Every tournament- same debate ???‍♂️
I am sorry you may feel this way sir. Let me assure you this was not my intention.

I am keen to understand why England fans would choose a team from an area that resists England because of England’s hideous treatment of that city throughout the ages.

Everyone is welcome to feel how they feel. I think think identifying with your community rather than a foul imperialistic oppressive state is more real and healthier.

Why does it feel sometimes that there's hidden covert racism involved with all these people pointing fingers at Qatar for human right abuses?

Maybe because it is just a feeling and there are actual human rights abuses in Qatar

I would answer that by saying that supporting a football team has nothing to do with politics, or at least shouldn't.

You can be community minded while supporting a football team/player, rugby team/player, cricket/cricketer, golfer, tennis player, bowler, ice skater, runner, pole vaulter, etc. that doesn't necessarily come from your own community or has spoken against any political injustices against the community.
