If we had koulibaly behind him then he would get to any balls played in behind carvalho. Could be quite a pairing in the spine.

my main worry with Carvalho would be pace mate, he's just so slow. It's not even Barry slow, because Barry has the experience to be in the right place at the right time, which is vital

Manager of Portugal trusts him to do the role in order to win the Euros. Manager of Sporting Lisbon trusts him to do it in the champions league. We have doubts about him doing a role we've entrusted to 35 year old Barry in consecutive seasons that we've come 11th? I really don't think it's an issue. If experience was crucial all these top sides would have 35 year olds all over the place. They don't though.

Carvalho's main asset is his positioning.

makes Barry look like he's turning after 3 bags of bugle. This fella is slow!!!

Never heard of him until the Euros and thought he was absolutely bang average.

Dorsn't sound like a Koeman signing in that case, cobsidering the Koeman buzzwords are speed and intensity.

Must have good qualities to make up for lack if pace.

Is he actually as slow as he looks though Zat, only seen him the few games for portugal but looked like a snail

Really hard to say to be honest....he can look really slow but then seems to get the ball so i dont know if hes just fantastic at reading the game...

Also when he strides forward he looks like vieira in that he doesnt look like hes fast but just runs through the opposition midfield.

Its a tricky one!

My take is that if koulibaly and him sign then with koulibalys ability to read the game and move forward to get the ball he can be the defensive legs behind carvalho...also with both of them we will have 2 big lads who have great long distance passing to unleash lukaku and wingers making us a real danger for teams.

As others have said he needs to be paired with someone who can do the leg work but only if hes isolated which he wouldnt be with koulibaly stepping out.....id personally stick a playmaker alongside him and have both deep as then we wouldnt really need a box to box player with carvalho + koulibaly + a playmaker able to pass it wide or forwards....
