Only weird thing to me is that although he had an injury and was out for a while Arsenal were linked for ages and so were United but it seems neither bid for him.

Would expect someone of his quality to leave before hitting 24.

Carvalho is a player who sits back most of the time tackles standing up and intercepts + acts as a kind of recycling player as a get out for others to pass back to and switch the play...gets forward as well but not so often.

Isnt Witsel still box to box and even if playing DM carries the ball forward? Seem totally different to me and different roles....?

aye mate, the comparision i made was more about the way they look on the eye, style etc rather than the nitty gritty of what they do on the ball etc.

Look at a lot of the negative comments about Witsel and this lad and they are basically carbon copies almost, having seen Witsel a decent amount i know that most of that negative stuff comes from from people who havent seen him 'that' much, hopefully the same thing applies to Carvalho who i admit on initial watching him my thoughts mirrored those i criticised for saying the same about Witsel

Yeah to me neither Witsel or Carvalho are what I call a proper DM, your James McCarthy, Gareth Barry types, its great tho, dont get me wrong, we miss creativity and plays in the middle of the park that can pick a forward pass, slightly harsh cos Gaz Baz aint bad at passing, but him and jamo, under Martinez granted, both favour the 2 yard sideways pass.

If we can get the blend right and keep Besic in the side I dont even care.

Carvalho seems to know where hes going to pass before receiving the ball which is the sign of a top player....

i think we need a koulibaly behind him though...not a jagielka type...

Nah just been positive on the lad for a whilst mate, think first said about him in 2014 as someone i'd like to see us go for.

The Portuguese do get great deals for their players .. Always seem to go for top dollar !

For those calling him lazy just read that he ran 14km in the Euro final - more than any other player on the pitch. He always looks pretty quick in full stride from the videos just really crap acceleration.
