England favorites now? Don’t see why they wouldn’t be.
I’m not sure. We played a new(ish) system today against a not very good team who were set up in the worst way possible.

I’m not sure it would work against the better teams and we have been hammered by injuries.

Whatever happens, Lauren James has to start at number 10/free role. 2 great goals and 3 assists today. And a third tight disallowed goal which was the best of the bunch. She’s going to be a very special player.

I’ve just not seen anyone really differentiate themselves this tournament. Any one of 5 or 6 could win it, England being one of the favorites imo. They have the team for it and seem to be figuring it out. Not always the worst thing to start slow and build momentum along the way.

We’re definitely up there, just don’t think we are the favourites. As you say though building momentum in tournaments is a big thing and sometimes you fall upon a system that works due to injuries messing up plan A.

My seemingly hot take is that the US Women are fine. The chances they’re creating are enough to score more than they have even if they aren’t as crisp as everyone would like and the defending has been extremely solid against competent teams. I don’t really think they’ll win it because it is just so unlikely to win a knockout tournament 3 times in a row but they absolutely still could.

They said on the radio that England had only beaten China once in their last four counters, so they must have something about 'em.

I'd say a 6-1 victory is a good result all things considered.

Definitely a very good result, especially having struggled to score recently and the injuries.

Not sure how far back those previous China games were but they used to be a lot better (WC final in 1999 I think) and England have improved a lot over the past few years. We had bloody Phil Neville as manager not that long ago

A large portion of our population is of the mindset that this team in particular (or maybe just some individuals) does not appreciate their position, particularly when compared to other women’s teams around the world. So some of the thinking is, “If you don’t appreciate the country that gave you your platform and made you wealthy, why do you choose to represent it?” Then the conversation gets circular…It’s blown way out of proportion, but it’s the world we live in now.

Bunch of the men don't sing....many likely don't even know the words given that haven't lived in the US.

Certain types of folks go after the women because of the previously mentioned kneeling, equal pay fight, openly LGBTQ members and generally daring to be opinionated outspoken females.

I think a lot of the world has caught up to China and the US...similar to England/Scotland dominating the international game for the men 100 years ago, until suddenly they didnt.

I somehow recall reading, with regard to China, that they aggressively pursued a policy of emphasizing individual sports in the runup to hosting the olympics, as there is a steeper hill to climb to get 11 players (for instance) of sufficient quality to win a gold medal compared to a single athlete. They may be feeling the effects of that still.

What’s with the drama about the US team not singing the national anthem ?

Is that a real thing that people in the US get really irate about ?

Seems lots of people in the us are losing their sheet over this and for what ?

Just an anthem

We have a lot of people here that hate football.

We have a lot of here that hate women.

The sport is still in its infancy. 90s-00s you could go far w/ a bit of organizaion and funding. Only the US really played it up to 15 years ago. Norway won a WC putting a bunch of tall women up front and just hoofed the ball to them (after eliminated in 2019, Norway's coach said, the competetion is so much better we actually have to learn to play now). China hand-picked a few athletes coached them up and lost the final on pens, this year's China team probably would have beaten them. Japan won the WC w/ only 70K registered players in the whole country (played some lovely footie tho).

Considering his perma tanned, combover wearing, disinfectant injector - wall building failures attitudes, soundbites, and subsequent first civil trial - I suggest not having any womens team anywhere near him is probably the safest bet.
