Almost as if he finds whatever consensus there is about something and then deliberately takes a contrarian stance in order to get attention

I mean, that's how it looks, but perhaps I'm being unkind?

Dave may just naturally take a contrary stance on everything, even if some contrary stances contradict a previous contrary stance that he previously took

I suppose it's possible :coffee:
Almost what a forum needs to provoke a reaction and keep the feeble minds like myself coming back for more ?

Your intellectual consistency is none existent.
1. Don’t support England cause you are Scouse, you don’t like the English history, you are prepared to over look the history of foreign teams that have equally questionable history.
2. You call the England team xenophobic despite them being a united group of multicultural English who take the knee every game in support of anti racism.
3. You want Brazil to win because of spurs player richarlison, despite the fact England squad contain two Everton players.
4. Oh but you support England ladies because you ae Scouse and English then.

This is Donald Trump like mental gymnastics or Grade A WUM
1/ There are no countries with equally questionable history.
2/ The team represent the nation.
3/ That's because Richarlison plays for Brazil and not England.
4/ Firstly, I dont remember going overboard about the womens team, but any support I gave it was in general about the women's game being less corrupt and cynical.

1/ is the most "I am English" thing I've seen written today.

As for predictions, I think we've got two really intriguing ties and the other two will be very watchable too.

I'm going for Brazil v. Argentina and Portugal v. France semi-finals.

While I am confident the Brazilians will be too much for Croatia and Portugal will not fall into the Spain trap against Morocco (they actually have conviction in front of goal), I think the other two are knife-edge meetings. I don't think the Dutch have shown enough to convince me that they can outscore the Argentinians, who look like the pressure is off a touch now. In previous World Cup wins over Argentina, Holland needed flair to win - Cruyff in 1974 and Bergkamp in 1998. In 1978, without the flair of their former captain, they plodded along and were beaten by circumstance. 2014 was a tight, cagey affair with LVG losing out on pens. I can see something similar happening again. But I wouldn't bet on it!

The same applies to France-England. The English will need to make a psychological breakthrough to win this match - effectively do something they haven't done since 1966 and win a World Cup knockout game against a genuine contender. Since Hurst's hat-trick, England have beaten Paraguay, Belgium, Cameroon, Denmark, Ecuador, Colombia, and Sweden at the business end of a World Cup. So, they will have to make history. Can they do it? I think they can. Will they do it? That's a different question. I'm not a betting man, but France would be the logical pick in what should be a tight game.
