Normally love watching competitors like Selby in other sports - psychological domination and forcing your opponent to play your game is the definition of a winner.
But something doesn't sit right with it in snooker - if everyone played like he does, with his personality, the game would be dead as a spectacle. I guess he can only be himself so you can't criticise, and it's hard to have a personality when all you know is snooker all day every day since you were off the teat.
Mentally he is pretty unbeatable, his biggest strength. Agree with what you say and the problem is for me that he doesn't need to play that way all the time, he is clearly outstanding at every aspect of the game but when he's trying to put lower ranked players in trouble at every chance at the table it grates a bit. I realise it's ultimately a game of strategy but it also needs to generate some excitement.
Wouldn't surprise me if the game was nowhere in 15 years time, I don't know any lads who even play anymore really. I can't imagine too many youngsters hang around snooker halls these days and take it seriously with a desire to become good.
Selby has all the tools to play more expansive, but would seemingly rather grind the opponent down cautiously and force mistakes of concentration. Mourinho of snooker (except Selby's tactics still work in this day and age).
