WORRIED?

Theres always something to worry about with Everton - its our default state.

But winning 4-2 away in the cup to a lower league side effectively playing their cup final is waaaay down the list.

This thread shows how short term most fans are.

Everyone is assuming the member who created it has done so in direct response to Lincoln.

He hasn't.

If you actually break down his points, it's all pretty fair;

So far in the league we have played three won one, drawn one lost one - All should have been victories with the players we have and money spent, could have lost them all.

Very true.

Marco Silva agrees - he himself admitted after Watford we could have lost but spun it rightly as a positive by saying we've improved as we likely would have lost on that performance last season.

4 points against C.Palace (A), Watford (H) and Aston Villa (A) is a bit 'meh', I'd have thought 6/7 minimum.

Carabao Cup struggled to win against a first division club.

Semantics, despite us being well on top, we did struggle.

Read any report and they'll say we edged it, survived a scare etc. We were 10 mins away from penalties;

Fans were generally nervous about the game, and were proved right to be so.

Look lethargic, off the pace and quite frankly clueless at times.

Difficult to argue isn't it? Particularly in the final third.

Silva still insisting on playing Schneiderlin who constantly makes defensive errors, fails to tackle, gives free kicks away and insists on playing forty yard balls to heavily marked players or passes back.

Agree, his determination to play two holding/defensive midfielders doesn't really do it for me. They just pass sideways, too deep/isolates Sigurdsson and we lack anything centrally - everything goes out wide.

He said at 2-2 yesterday we 'took more risks' - against teams that sit deep and invite us, we should be doing that from the off otherwise we'll be toothless and be picked off on the counter.

In essence I believe we have a decent squad with the potential for a good cup run and or relative league success, I just think the man at the helm does not know who his best squad is and where to play them.

Agree.

Am I worried?

Damn right I am....................

We'll finish 7th-10th.

As we would under pretty much any other manager.

....a bit odd.

These early games were always going to be a struggle, it’s been widely predicted on here.
Said many times. No zouma or Gana from last season and barely any of our new signings starting, it was always going to be a struggle. Sunday is massive. I’ll take any win over one of our main challenges for Europa places and then we have the international break to get them all fully fit bar Gbamin.

Spurs and United have both dropped points against teams you would expect them to beat.

Losing to Palace and Newcastle at home is a lot worse than what we have done so far.

Chelsea will drop points over the course of the season, not convinced their squad is good enough for top 6.

Nothing to worry too much about for us IMO. As others have said, if DCL was gonna start every game then maybe we'd struggle but I fully expect Kean to be in the first 11 soon and make an impact. Add to that Iwobi who gives us something different and I think we'll be able to challenge top 6. No reason to suggest 7th is the ceiling

We've shown flashes of what we can be in those games. We've literally had gueyes replacement not match fit, then injured, Delph injured, gomes half injured. Of course he played schneiderlin. Who also isn't as bad as you all like to moan about.

Wolves (supposedly one of our main rivals for that coveted 7th spot) on Sunday and really not relishing that one.

If we had Sam we could definitely finish worse.

Well, we finished 8th with Sam Allardyce didn't we?

Sam Allardyce is a stain on the clubs history - he should never be the benchmark but if he was - Sam Allardyce's record at his league club prior Everton (Crystal Palace) was better than Marco Silva's at Watford (and Hull).

That's what I mean when I say we'd finish 7th-10th no matter who was in the dugout - the important thing is the bigger picture and whether Marco Silva is the man - that's on Marcel Brands isn't it?

Maybe swerve the two holding midfielders?

Play one, or Davies...

95 percent of the league should be very worried if that's the case on the form of 3 games.

If we’ll finish 7th-10th again, what is he WORRIED IN ALL CAPS about?

Because 8th, 9th and 10th is not good enough for the money we've spent. We should have had 7th wrapped up last year. If we don't get it this year, Silva needs to go and we need to find someone able to deliver on the long term project to break into the top six.

Feeling positive we haven’t got a side to worry the champions league places but we are slowly improving. Losing Gueye was a massive blow and his replacement getting injured is tough luck. Like the look of Kean Iwobi and Delph last night expect they’ll be regulars down the line. A good showing at Hillsborough and nice draw in the next round we could be looking at a semi before you know it.

This is it. There is progress but its not at the rate a lot of folk want to see. Still many twists and turns to come this season but overall we are still very much a work in progress. A lot has been done in terms of overhauling the squad, but there remains a lot left to do.
