Worst Squad Since Early 2000s

I'd say the squad we had post Rooney departure in 2004 was worse than this current one.

Difference is we had a manager who knew his players and the tactics to get the best out of them.

This squad does not

We made some transfers, but couldn't close all the gaps (FB wing). This squad is surely good enough to reach 45 points to finish 13/14th in the league. As of now, I see that in danger, even knowing that Dyche has about 3 months of pre-season every year.

He's been here for 20 months now. It's ok that his first focus was to do what he seemed to do mostly, play basic defensive football.

But based on the last season we had a solid basis with a good defensive performance to also improve our football abilities to take the next step there. With that I don't mean to play attacking football, but a bit more than hoofing go for 2nd balls.

I quoted that last night. Around 1997. Kendalls 3rd spell. That squad was awful. Some of the squads from 2003 on were decent. Well mid table decent.
This squad is scaring me like 1997.
Look at the title of the thread haha, worst squad since the early 2000’s.

We had some real dross in the 90s for sure.

This one is bad though, bottom 5 in the prem bad.

The 97/98 and 98/99 teams (widely regarded as awful) actually had players in it who would stroll into the current Everton XI. I'd take Dave Watson and Marco Materazzi over any of our current centre backs. John Collins and Gary Speed would stroll into our midfield and be massive upgrades. Michael Ball was better than Mykolenko. Would probably take Bakayoko over N'Diaye, Chermiti and Beto as well. At least Bakayoko scored a few goals. We also had Kevin Campbell (RIP) who would immediately be our best striker now.

Spped was a good player ... not sure I agree on Collins. Ball always seemed to be injured.

Haha, same squad that managed to get almost 50 points last season is now absolute bottom feeders.

Dyche mentality in full force, Royal Blue Burnley.
That was a huge over achievement if you look at any metric and even just on the eye test.

Take Branthwaite out the team and what’s happened?

I don't believe we are as bad as what we are seeing.

I expected a bad summer window. It wasn't that bad all things considered.

I think there is enough to work with to have us competitive and upward looking in the bottom half, not already in a panic about going down.
