Worst Squad Since Early 2000s

Well 97/98 springs instantly to mind to be honest.

A half-blind goalkeeper. Phelan, Ward, Tiler, Oster, Williamson, O'Kane, Tony Thomas, Claus Thomsen, John Spencer, Gavin McCann, Gareth Farrelly, Peter Beagrie, Paul Gerrard, Michael Branch.

But sure, this squad is worse 🙄
Think you missed the title of the thread there mate.

I'm not the sharpest tool in the box by any means but if the quality of the player diminishes the so too does the output. I would always argue that Dyche didn't help this set of players and there were a number of ways I don't think the coaching was good, that is evident. It seems the players themselves have said they weren't happy because they didn't get enough instructions etc from Dyche. But also Dyche's 'philosophy' was pretty basic and stone age. Hardly conducive of good football. It's also clear Dyche didn't improve players no matter what level. The only ones I think improved were McNeil who I liken to a dog missing his master and was excited when Dyche turned up. And Doucoure who was basically lashed by Lampard. The rest have been docile at best. Except Pickford who is his own man. Branthwaite has talent.

The squad itself is not too bad there is talent but it definitely is short on key areas (again testament to coaching) particularly goal scoring/finishing, and crossing/set pieces.

I think it's up there with the worst I've seen in 40 something years. Especially for scoring goals. That's the aim of the game, right? 🤷‍♂️ That, winning, and entertainment. None of which you got with Dyche.

We can all see the lack of goals coming from our strikers but we just have no technically minded midfielders/guys who can pick a pass out to the striker. Years of only strengthening the left hand side hasn't helped.

- Lindstrom is the second coming of Bernard, only weaker.
- Doucoure is incapable of acting as a no.10: an energetic box-to-box he may be but a creative no.10 he is not.
- Mykolenko is fine as a back up LB but the fact that we let go of all LBs worth a damn in the past 10 years is mind boggling.

What I want to know is what possessed Dyche to not replace the set piece coach this season - literally the only way we were gonna score any goals

Think you missed the quote I was responding to there mate. Read the last bit of his comment:

Apart from bottom of the league we have the worst full backs the worst right wing the worst number 10 and a forward who can't score, the early 2000 squad is far superior, I doubt there is many evertonians alive who have seen a worse squad.

It depends which way you look at it really. This side is undoubtedly better than that one as a direct comparison, but relative to the quality of the rest of the league it's a bit different.
Fair point, but as I pointed out above - mismanagement and playing players out of position etc has had a huge impact on these.

Stand corrected sir.

Admittedly I think that was the poorest Everton squad I refuse to believe that ferguson Hutchinson barmby ball dunne Watson are worse than this lot.

If Moshiri wasn't a dud our line up could have been something like this.

---------------Pickford*--------------
Patterson*--Stones--Branthwaite--Digne
--Gordon---Onana---Gueye*---Richarlison--
-------------Lukaku------------Lookman------------

Other notable sales /departures
Mina
Kean
Iwobi
Rodriguez
Barkley
Deulofeu

Instead we have a mess left behind. I really hope TFG can clean up the club. Recruitment is in dire need of an overhaul and fresh faces needed this window.
