the final pieces in the puzzle? lol!

honestly if we got these 2 players it would be very exciting times ahead! all in early 20's... moyes really is building a team!

howard

neville yobo lescott baines

arteta cahill fernandez pienaar

aj yakubu

dare we dream the dream????

Yakubu is a tough SOB- he would compliment AJ a treat and with the boys waiting in the wings we would surely have a team to compete at the highest level. Add Fernandes to that as well and I would wet my pants.

Would be absolutely incredible if we even signed one of them. Manny has been with us and we've seen how fantastic he is in our midfield. Yakubu we know is a proven goalscorer and would definitly fit in well up front with aj.

Lets hope these arent just rumours and that Moyes can actually pulloff the greatest last second signings!

Would indeed be a dream to have such a team. Young players on each position that can be competitive for many years to come. Would indeed make a great foundation for Moyes to increase size in the coming years since we've then gotten rid of the deadweight and could then more focus on purchasing qualityplayers without fearing the number of players available.

Well the story is in the echo, so in all likelyhood we have put bids in for them. These two would be mind blowingly awesome, they really would complete that first 11 and make it extremly strong. So strong, that I dont think anyone could rule us out as champions league contenders.

However, Yakubu for £10M, considering how much Bent went for earlier I think this bid is way off the mark, I'd say he's probably worth more like £15M in this market, so I am doubtfull we'll get him at that price.

Fernandez is another issue though, if we've bid £6 and they want £8 then surely a comprimise can be made there, so I'd say if we've put a bid in for him, then its fairly likely that we'll get him.

Also, reading from Moyes and Irvine's prevoius comments, they didnt seem to be going to sign a striker this year, and now suddenly have a budget for £10M for one, I find this a bit strange.

Please, please please please, be true, but considering it took us all summer to sort out Baines and Jags then how long would it take us to sort these two out?

Ill be honest I have no idea how a football club is run but I think the things that take time is the negotiations with agents and the players themselves. A club bid its mulled over either accpeted or rejected but discussions start and a compromise made. If Benfica want 8m then maybe thats what they will say and we put a package to that figure- I dont know we could have been in discussions with them all summer- who knows??

Actually I seem to remember reading earlier this summer Benfica being happy with a £6M offer.. it's just that a part of Fernandes is owned by a company that want money as well. An offer of £8M might be divided £5M to Benfica and £3M to the other owner.. or something similar.

Also during the summer more clubs are inclined to prolong transfers since they might want time to look for replacements, get other parties interested and so on.. later in a transferwindow they don't have that much time and therefore transfers might go through more quickly.

Don't know if £10M is enough for Yakubu though. He was bought for £7,5M, I guess it depends a bit on how many years he have left on his contract. If it's 2 years or something similar £10M might be enough or close to it, if he's on a long term contract then a few millions more might be needed. It also depends on the will of Yakubu. If he goes to his board saying he want this move, it increases the chance of the bid to be accepted.

I think the main reason we're looking at a striker now is that we sold BT and have Vaughan injured for a couple of months. Made us short on proven, reliable strikers.

Yeah I appreciate that, but how on earth do we suddenly have £10M budgeted for a striker when we werent initially going to buy one? Unless our initial budget was something like £18M just for a midfielder and now we're splitting it to get 2. Moyes did say he had enough for one major signing, I just didnt realise he meant he had that much. I honestly thought with Baines now in, we'd get 1 more tops, but 2 big signings? Thats either unlikely or Moyes has played his cards close to his chest.

Thats kinda why im hopeful with the Fernandez deal, because he's already been here, surely that will mean less discussions as both parties kinda know most things already. Its simply a case of agreeing a fee, then sorting his salary, so if we really want Fernandez, then I think we'll get him.

But Yakubu, personally I think we've bid way below what boro want, but on the other hand, theres news of them looking for a replacement for him.

Lets be honest, why does Yakubu wanna play for them if bigger clubs are interested? Its not like their going anywhere, and they will probably finish near the bottom. We have a young an up and coming team, so in that aspect we have something to offer him, but I think we'll have to get close to £15M to get him.

Don't think he will cost that much. Henry cost £15M when he left Arsenal... can´t see them getting that much even though he is a few years younger. But up to £11-12M perhaps.
