Yakubu?

Yeah I appreciate that, but how on earth do we suddenly have £10M budgeted for a striker when we werent initially going to buy one? Unless our initial budget was something like £18M just for a midfielder and now we're splitting it to get 2. Moyes did say he had enough for one major signing, I just didnt realise he meant he had that much. I honestly thought with Baines now in, we'd get 1 more tops, but 2 big signings? Thats either unlikely or Moyes has played his cards close to his chest.

But if we look at the transfers this year Moyes haven't splashed out much from his kitty.. most of the summer transfers have been funded with sales either now or in January, so if he got extra cash from Kenwright that's pretty much untouched.

Don't think he will cost that much. Henry cost £15M when he left Arsenal... can´t see them getting that much even though he is a few years younger. But up to £11-12M perhaps.

Yeah but then Bent went for £18M wasnt it? In this market its all whichever silly price a club will value someone at. Seeing as though Yakubu is keeping them up, they'll either be much less inclined to let him leave, or let him leave to bring in more reinforcements.

Was it actually Southgate that signed Yakubu? How long has he been at boro?

It was Stevie Mac who signed Yakubu. He has been there for 2-3 season IIRC.

That makes it better for us then, as managers like to bring in their own players. I cant see it happening to be honest, but I really hope it does.

If he's been there 2-3 seasons he can't have that many years left on his contract. Bent had more years left, therefore cost more. With Yakubu having only 2 perhaps 3 years left his value is somewhat reduced.

Unfortunetely I don't think this transfer is going through.. but it would be very nice if it did.

Yeah hell yeah, our midfield should definitely offer him more goals, Yakubu and Johnson up front, that would be amazing. UEFA cup here we come.

That would give us a good pool of strikers, Johnson, Yakubu, Vaughan and Anichebe. Am I right in saying that both Anichebe and Yakubu are both Nigerian? It may help slightly.

And be a hinderance when they bugger off, with Yobo, to the Nations Cup in Jan/Feb.

Yeah I suppose your right, how long will they be gone?

I forgot about Yobo too, surely that will be a big draw for him then, playing with two of his international teammates.

And he chose to play for Nigeria, rather than England (and who could blame him! I wouldn't wanna play for McLaren either)

The main difference between the fee paid for Bent and the fee that will be paid for Yakubu is that Bent is English and Yakubu Nigerian. As soon as the birthcertificate says that a player is born in England his price is inflated 25-40% - somehow Moyes has managed to get both Jags and Baines in for IMO a realistic price.

Yakubu's deal will hinge on Southgate being able to bring in Samaras, otherwise I don't see him releasing Yakubu. But then again if he is planning on Aliadiere and Samaras forming his first choice strikeforce Boro are going down!

They'd miss 3/4 games.

As for Yakubu, for 11m? to much. Hes not that good.

In my eyes he's worth double the prize of Nugent... and we know how much he went for. But I agree £11M is alot of money... but if it gives us a striker scoring more than 15 goals in a season and partners well with AJ? He might be worth it anyway.

As for the african nations.. it's from beginning of January to mid/late February.. depending on how far the team goes in the playoff.

He scored 16 times last season in a crap team, he's capable of scoring 20+ in a good team. Imagine having 2 strikers capable of scoring 20+. Now thats something we havent seen in a long time.
