Who cares who pays the wages? That is the club's problems not ours. The only scandal about wages is the level of payment to average and below average players throughout the top game. That has created a gap between ordinary wage earners (the fans) and them, a gap filled with resentment and abuse when they fail to perform.

The loan fee Villa pay will probably cover 75% of his wages over the duration of the deal, something like that.

Well, although we overpaid (hugely) at £25m at the time, he did bring something that squad lacked.

You can't legislate for a bad injury such as his, which is what has scuppered the resale value. Yeh, we'd had never made our money back, but I'd say without that injury we either

a) wouldn't be so desperate to get rid

or

b) a team would have taken a punt at £15m ish
