Yannick Bolasie

We went completely to s*** when he was injured in the early part of 2016, and at that point everyone was saying he's by far our most important player. It amazes me how people can forget this. Considering we can't really pass the ball, he is massive for our style of play, and will be a huge loss for us, not only in terms of his end product but now teams will be able to double up on Zaha and negate our threat. No use signing 30 mil Benteke if we can no longer get the ball to him.

And another.

Seems it's more a case of the classic 'oh he wants to leave, he's crap now lad' rather than 'always been about as good as McGeady'. A bit like some on here with Stones...

Are you suggesting that every signing that's ever been made has been a success because it was a professional football manager that signed them?
No mate just we've paid a lot of money for these two and we could at least give them till the first game of the season before we start ripping into their signings and competency.

On his day Aurone Kone is also unstoppable.. he had a couple of games for Wigan and us where he looked amazing... but sadly it is maybe 5 games in his entire career.

Fair enough if we sign Bolasie and Koeman thinks it is the best of what is possible... however I´m not much more excited than when we got Kone, McCarthy, Miralles etc... He might be a better player but nothing to get excited about like when we got Lukaku, Aykubu, Fellaini and the other record signings

But look where we are: right on the eve of a new season. Positions like GK, CM, AM and second forward are the spine of a team and needed to have been in by now. That's why the summer has been a minor disaster.

I think Koeman is just going to replace what we sell. (I can see Jagielka leaving if we get a good enough bid for him and then a replacement will be found - Mirallas' replacement is here now, of course, so that'll be cash spent elsewhere if we offload him). Koeman might pull one or two more than that out of the bag, but I cant see them being 'marquee' signings.

Basically: a lot was promised, it hasn't materialised in the period it made sense to bring top players in, and we now need to focus on addressing one single unit of the team that let us down last season - the defence. If the defence is reconstructed with more steel then I'd grudgingly accept that at this stage.

the club hasn't promised anything. it'd have been silly of them to do so.

three weeks left in the window Dave.

We went into the 13/14 deadline day without a spine of a side - or at least a spine that was set to leave. Came out of it with a whole new midfield and forward line.

Until this window is over I'm not judging it.

Did he play in the 90s?

Unfortunately Martinez decimated the squad and left us with the likes of Kone, McGeady, Niasse and Cleverly. Throw in stones departure and Besic injury and it's even worse.

We need players. We have money. Other clubs know this. We will have to pay over the odds for every target.

Bolasie is an upgrade on the 4 mentioned above. With Better players around him he will improve.

The midfielder Everton deserves, but not the one it needs

I think 2013/14 was different in that we had a settled side and needed a couple in to add firepower (Lukaku) and McCarthy/Barry for the way Martinez wanted to play through midfield. The likes of Alcarez and Kone were filler.

This time we knew we needed a GK, another attacker, a clear out of the defence barring Mori and Coleman and (if Barkley is to continue further up the pitch) a creative central midfielder.

We've barely tinkered with the defence so far and we cant make up the ground on that dawdling about in the next three weeks, imo.

The only reason people were more amenable to the sigurdsson signing was because he had a good euros. They're players of similar ability at a similar price.

ok we had a £18m bid rejected, no way would we then return with a £30m bid!!

It'll be £25m absolute maximum and even that will be contingent on us winning the treble or something.
Sigurdsson is better, and has been a consistently good prem player for four seasons now. He actually had a fairly average Euro campaign, but proved that he is a team player imho.

Bolasie has scored nine goals in three seasons in the prem.

Id rather spend £25 mil on Sigurdsson than Bolasie

Me too. I'm very unsure about Bolasie at £15m, let alone the rumoured £24m rising to £30m. I think we're overpaying dramatically here.

You make some good points and I'm not disagreeing - we have left it late and I'd have liked to have seen more progress by now.

However, until the window is over I'm refusing to judge fully. It's been my stance all along :)

Just saying though Sigurdsson and Bolasie aren't in any way similar. Koeman obviously thinks (and I agree) that we need more power and presence in forward areas.
