Yannick Bolasie

While I agree I do think there are certainly faults in Bolasie's game. However, he's shown he can still have a big impact on a season and in a better team and yes, under a better manager, should improve.
He has been Palace's most dangerous player for a couple of seasons. Defending teams wouldn't have given him much space except Martinez' Everton who were probably the only team not to double up on him.

but that's the point, teams double-up'in on him will create space for the likes of Ross, Rom or Geri. It also makes our front like scary quick on the counter.
If we can get a decent midfielder who can hold the ball and pick a pass we can be very good

Agreed. The more players we have that need to be doubled up on the better.

Yep exactly. Bolasie also offers something completely different to what our current wingers do as well and that is some strength and presence ot go along with the pace.

It gets so frustrating to watch good players like Kev, Del and Lennon at times when they just don't have the ability to turn on some power, and it does seem to stem our attacking ability at times.

Sad thing is, we'd have loved Schmeichel and Sigurdsson. Now we're hoping it's the same spiel but are gonna actually end up signing the div.

The only reason people were more amenable to the sigurdsson signing was because he had a good euros. They're players of similar ability at a similar price.

ok we had a £18m bid rejected, no way would we then return with a £30m bid!!

It'll be £25m absolute maximum and even that will be contingent on us winning the treble or something.

We were predictable and easy to play against last season without Bolasie and our form evaporated almost from the moment he got injured at Stoke.

The stats belie what he brings to the team as he's virtually unplayable at times and opponents are terrified of his pace, strength and directness.

Don't blame him for wanting the move but hoped we were building rather than selling and we're not that well off for strength in depth or quality. £30m only any good if you use it well and Bolasie's loss would send out the wrong message to players and agents IMO.

^ a post on a Palace forum. Just balancing out the bad comments with the good, ey...

Id rather spend £25 mil on Sigurdsson than Bolasie

I agree again on that first point mate which is why I'm not really bothered - I'd rather have quality over quantity any day.

As it stands, I'd say we still need: New CB, GK (Stek a good option I think but need better), back-up fwd (depends on how RK wants to use Bolasie I suppose), creative CM, AM (I think this could potentially be one or the other if Bolasie is coming)

However, if we don't get all of the above I won't be devastated, but I'd like to see at least another four signings (not including Bolasie). Just my opinion of course.

I also think Holgate has shown enough in pre-season to warrant a place in the squad, possibly primarily as right-back cover (he's played there equally well as he as at CB), as well as our 'go-to' 4th/5th choice CB.

Outgoings I do just think it'll be a case of doing all we can to ship out McGeady, Niasse and probably Kone,, while if decent offers come in for say McCarthy, Clevs or Gibson, one of them will probably leave (I love Jimmy Mac, but he's frustrated the hell out of me this pre-season with his rigid sideways passing, and I don't know if he'll suit RK's system)

But look where we are: right on the eve of a new season. Positions like GK, CM, AM and second forward are the spine of a team and needed to have been in by now. That's why the summer has been a minor disaster.

I think Koeman is just going to replace what we sell. (I can see Jagielka leaving if we get a good enough bid for him and then a replacement will be found - Mirallas' replacement is here now, of course, so that'll be cash spent elsewhere if we offload him). Koeman might pull one or two more than that out of the bag, but I cant see them being 'marquee' signings.

Basically: a lot was promised, it hasn't materialised in the period it made sense to bring top players in, and we now need to focus on addressing one single unit of the team that let us down last season - the defence. If the defence is reconstructed with more steel then I'd grudgingly accept that at this stage.
