Again, it's an article of faith. Until we solve that one then we're looking at a continuation of the old failed project of selling our highest value player(s) and using that to largely operate with.

Only we're not doing that at all.

We're not cashing in on players in order to use the cash to operate with.

One of the reasons we've sold Stones was in order to ensure that our over spend stays within the regulations of the league, it's a completely different scenario. A complete juxtaposed position in fact.

Commercial revenue increases will be largely driven by on field success, so gradually the idea I'm sure, is that it becomes self sustaining, as the none TV revenue streams allow for greater flexibility in years to come. Moshiri can't just pull a multi million pound sponsorship deal out of his arse Dave.

We're essentially in agreement. We differ only in how we view the prospect of continuing to sell our high value players to achieve wage stability.

In fairness Dave, Stones is the first 'high value' player we've sold in three years.

As long as we keep Rom et all and add some quality to the squad I'd say this window has seen us come out stronger than we came into it, which should always be our aim (one of the only phrases RM coined that is dead right and nobody can argue with imo).

If this time next year we're in a position that we have to sell Rom just to fund wage rises etc, then I think we'd all rightfully be concerned about the investment levels.

If he does go but it was purely for footballing reasons (e.g. a Bayern or Real coming in for him) then fair enough.

I think too many fans (not including you in this) are after/expecting a quick fix, when that was never gonna be the case.

I'm not tempering my expectations either, but I also never expected it to be a short-term thing.

Wanting to make several 'statement' signings, and failing to make a single 'statement' signing, basically makes it's own statement, the one transfer involving a high profile player has been the one leaving Everton.

as of right now that says a lot

Edit - far too many statements in that paragraph for my liking

We're going all out though mate, you have to see that.

I think we'll get one 'statement' signing in. That'd do me.

I don't get the obsession with 'marquee' players - I'd rather have players that improve the side first and foremost. FWIW, all of the three signings we have made so far have done/will do that to an extent for the system that RK seemingly wants to play.

The reason why Mata would be so perfect is because he's both a 'statement' and a quality player - same with Witsel (though to less of an extent, and clearly that's now ended).

This lad definitely offers something different for us. I'd be all for the signing but the reported price is steep - however at this point no one really knows what we're offering anyway but if Koeman's a big fan then we'll see how he does.

It's a strange situation mate. Everything has changed and yet nothing has changed.

I cant blame Moshiri for walking into a club with poor infrastructure. But the long haul we'd have to have under his new regime to set those inherited problems right should have been explained as part and parcel of his arrival.

I think an awful lot of people have been led to believe that a magic wand was available.

It's obvious we have to still cut our cloth accordingly. We haven't made that massive leap that was allowed to become an article of faith on here and other forums that the rules of the game for us had fundamentally changed on Moshiri's arrival. We need to wait and get high value players out of the door in order to provide wriggle room on wages...itself something that could have been avoided if the club under the new ownership were able to swing commercial deals and generate revenue to help us out in that respect. "He's only been here 6 months". Ok, but what is going to be different going forward when there isn't any concrete plan to increase our revenue base other than a vague stadium promise?

I think it's too early to tell on the development of the off-field commercial activities under the new administration. There are some awful contractual messes that need resolving thanks to Elstone, the Kitbag and Chang deals being the most obvious. Until we are extricated from those impediments it's hard to really gauge where we're going on that side of things.

just spoke to a palace fan - he loves him, but says we are overpaying, great to watch tho and always has a smile on his face

sounds like he will be interesting at least..

think this sums it up matey.

we are certainly overpaying but I for one am not going to lose any sleep over that.

Fans have been moaning about us not spending money, and now we are it's seemingly the same ones whinging again because it's not being spent on who they want.

He'll offer something different to what we have which should always be the aim when bringing a player in IMO, not more of the same which RM seemed sometimes intent to do (though he could spot a decent player).

For this money it's also obvious RK is looking to move away from our current attacking style, which lets admit has turned stale since the turn of the year.

What you've stated there ^^^ is actually what I'm saying.

I'm making the point that insane expectation levels have been allowed to build up when the reality is a lot different for us.
