It's a strange situation mate. Everything has changed and yet nothing has changed.

I cant blame Moshiri for walking into a club with poor infrastructure. But the long haul we'd have to have under his new regime to set those inherited problems right should have been explained as part and parcel of his arrival.

I think an awful lot of people have been led to believe that a magic wand was available.

I'm not sure he was under obligation to explain anything early doors.

As a relatively well-heeled and successful businessman, I think we should be inclined to let him carry out a thorough review of all areas of infrastructure and staff, and make changes in a timely and structured order. His bringing in his Russian friend and business associate, Moshiri has set those wheel in motion and when the time is right - after due consideration - the changes will be made and if needs be, the axe will fall on some.

Too many people have perhaps fallen into the trap of a billionaire taking control and waving said magic wand - if it were that easy, surely there'd be even more billionaires queuing up to take on footie clubs.

Moshiri would appear to me to have bought into the 'Everton are a sleeping giant' theory and he's going about the awakening in ways that suit him.
He's on the stadium case leaving t'other fella to look into and after the day-to-day operations of the club.

I tend to concur with the thoughts of @The Esk in that Everton, over the course of the next couple of/few years will change beyond current levels of recognition... and fingers crossed in say five years time, we'll be back where we all want to be... challenging for the very top, winning silverware and having recently moved into a state-of-the-art, riverfront gin-palace of a stadium.

No, it doesn't.

50mil net spend would (not factoring in any other sales) could easily result in:

Gueye - 8mil (rounded up)
Williams - 12mil (again, going with the highest reported figure)
Bolasie - 25mil (even this is probably a few mil higher)
Mata - 30mil (obviously unknown at this stage)
Kone - 18mil

Even with those five incoming (obviously it's up in the air on Mata/Kone), it still doesn't account for a 50mil net spend in this window, and those 5 all improve the team/squad.

We're also likely to see sales of some of the likes of McCarthy/Clevs/Gibbo and possibly even Jagielka, as well as McGeady, Kone and Niasse hopefully being shipped out.
I was going to give you a like until I read that ridiculous bit about receiving cash for Niasse.

Again, I agree with this. I'm not placing any massive burden of responsibility for our situation on Moshiri. He inherited it.

But for me there's no use in inflating people's expectations and hopes about a quick fix, which IS something Moshiri and his friends in the media have been responsible for either explicitly stating or implying. The whole story about new manager and massive transfer war chest was allowed to build before the unlikeliness of it had them dowsing it down a bit with cold water. That should never have been allowed to happen.

On field strengthening and bringing in a quality manager are relatively quick fixes though, and Moshiri has indeed openly said he intends bolstering the transfer pot in order to achieve that.

We can judge how he's done in his first window in charge when it's closed Dave, we simply don't know what the expenditure is going to be in the next 3 weeks.

I think it is fair and balanced, tbh.

As we stand it's been a disappointment: even if we do get a glut of signings in during the next fortnight that wont make for a well planned and executed transfer window. It just confirms that we're still essentially a sell to buy club; that we've had to hang on and hang on until City moved for Stones to get our preseason spending going and that has wrecked our preparations.

everyone seems to be signing late on except for Liverpool adopting their usual 'who can we buy from southampton' approach and throwing money round without any real rhyme or reason
I think it's a phenomena of this season - everyone is still feeling out the new market with all the extra money flying around so they're being cautious and hanging fire on deals until all the I s are dotted and t s are crossed
reckon it'll be different next season

Most fans need a player to have played for a "top" club or have outstanding statistics despite the fact that there are far more things to consider when looking at a player to bring in..

I blame media hype and more so these days the simplicities of football video games. Everyone is the expert in the skill of football in sterile unemotional world of Consoles and PCs. Shaqiri last year who we were heavily linked too was supposed to catapult Stoke into Champion league or Europa league and in reality nothing of the sort happened.

.

Part of the problem with this is that Moshiri has largely kept his own council and anything coming out of the club, formally or otherwise, seems to be from those who are both responsible for the mess at the club and/or oblivious to there being a problem in the first place.

Anyone looking closely at the club over recent seasons should know that money alone wont fix things on and off the pitch. It will help though.
