In fairness Dave, Stones is the first 'high value' player we've sold in three years.

As long as we keep Rom et all and add some quality to the squad I'd say this window has seen us come out stronger than we came into it, which should always be our aim (one of the only phrases RM coined that is dead right and nobody can argue with imo).

If this time next year we're in a position that we have to sell Rom just to fund wage rises etc, then I think we'd all rightfully be concerned about the investment levels.

If he does go but it was purely for footballing reasons (e.g. a Bayern or Real coming in for him) then fair enough.

I think too many fans (not including you in this) are after/expecting a quick fix, when that was never gonna be the case.

I'm not tempering my expectations either, but I also never expected it to be a short-term thing.
Good post mate. Agree with most if not all of that.

We're going all out though mate, you have to see that.

I think we'll get one 'statement' signing in. That'd do me.

I don't get the obsession with 'marquee' players - I'd rather have players that improve the side first and foremost. FWIW, all of the three signings we have made so far have done/will do that to an extent for the system that RK seemingly wants to play.

The reason why Mata would be so perfect is because he's both a 'statement' and a quality player - same with Witsel (though to less of an extent, and clearly that's now ended).

Because mate we have been starved of such things since 'arguably' Kanchelskis joined us, as for why we should sign a marquee player etc, by and large they tend to be a bit better than ones who aren't - they've generally proven themselves already - and it does have an impact on recruitment having overall a higher profile set of players at a club.

Mainly though it's because it would be an obvious sign that things have changed rather than believing in internet whispers that things have done so, and yes a few things have noticably changed - but they also did so under both previous regimes at one point or another, and both proved false dawns.

I think it's too early to tell on the development of the off-field commercial activities under the new administration. There are some awful contractual messes that need resolving thanks to Elstone, the Kitbag and Chang deals being the most obvious. Until we are extricated from those impediments it's hard to really gauge where we're going on that side of things.
Spot on mate. I just posted above that Moshiri cant be blamed for walking into a commercial mess of an operation.

We can pay higher fees (apparently). What good does it do though if you have an upper limit on wages?

Loads of our PL competitors are paying higher fees now. We gain no advantage there. We need an explosion of activity from our commercial arm to generate revenue to allow 4/5 top quality players demanding top end wages in order to scrap our way above the midtable dross and have a go at sustaining CL place challenges.

Where's the plan? A sit down photo session with Joe Anderson and a few words of encouragement on the stadium dont amount to anything substantial in my opinion.

The plan is probably not to tell everyone what the plan is, and they're being fairly successful.

Dave, I have been on here for a fair while now and I know that you are not daft enough to expect a businessman to reveal his full hand 6 months into a job, also in the same respect do I not think that you are expecting a business to be able to turn around to the extent Everton needs in that same 6 months while there are existing contractual obligations to uphold and tight restrictions placed by the regulatory boards.

There are very few successful businessmen in the world who will approach a job of this magnitude, in both prestige and workload, without a plan. that plan would've been disseminated internally to the people who need to know.

We could have an owner/major shareholder who tells us everything tat goes in via twitter if you want..... I'm sure Villa fans would let us have him.

For me though, I'm happy to trust Moshiri and his team to get the job done, until a time when it is no longer tenable, if that time ever arrives. Just as I was with Martinez.

It's a strange situation mate. Everything has changed and yet nothing has changed.

I cant blame Moshiri for walking into a club with poor infrastructure. But the long haul we'd have to have under his new regime to set those inherited problems right should have been explained as part and parcel of his arrival.

I think an awful lot of people have been led to believe that a magic wand was available.

The clubs structure was a mess, and being honest rather than fan the flames and hype up the size of potential changes this summer, the club should have tempered them down

Season ticket motto was the clearest sign that they are perfectly fine with hopes being raised without neccesarily fulfilling those promises (hinted at ofc)

Because a lot of fans base their opinions off hype, what the media tell them to believe and which club they play for. If Huth and Morgan played for Arsenal, they would be seen as classy centre backs with a physical side to their game. But because they play for unfashionable Leicester they don't get the credit that Meresacker and Koscielny do for example. They were that solid last season that they contributed to Leicester winning the league, despite Leicester being considered for the drop.

Most fans need a player to have played for a "top" club or have outstanding statistics despite the fact that there are far more things to consider when looking at a player to bring in.

I'd love us to get Mata if we do bring in a "statement" signing though. Think he's what we need.

Again, I agree with this. I'm not placing any massive burden of responsibility for our situation on Moshiri. He inherited it.

But for me there's no use in inflating people's expectations and hopes about a quick fix, which IS something Moshiri and his friends in the media have been responsible for either explicitly stating or implying. The whole story about new manager and massive transfer war chest was allowed to build before the unlikeliness of it had them dowsing it down a bit with cold water. That should never have been allowed to happen.
