honestly don't know how anyone hasn't figured out that he nails that looping cross to the back post most times. it's just not in the right spot for Lukaku's runs, which is fine because those can be attacked by the keeper or CBs on most occasions. Ross or Mirallas should've been back there after the first couple.

also I think he's been fine. too reliant on the dribble and inconsistent with his short passing, but he puts in an effort on both sides of the ball, and has been consistently creating chances. His overall play seems pretty inefficient and he loses the ball or slows up the attack at the wrong times too much for me though.

also putting more burden on him because of inflated fees is silly. it's not his fault 25mil this year was last years 15mil.

I get where you're coming from but I think there's a point where you have to take notice of stats. If Beckford had scored 30 goals instead of 10, it wouldn't matter how poor his first touch and overall play was.
Same with Papa Shango's example. If the ball keeps bouncing off a players backside 20 times a season and sitting up nicely for the striker to slot, I want that fat backside in my team.
Agree that stats don't tell the whole story in football though.

You can use stats... look at shearer or Le tissier their stats say they were excellent players... and they were.. but just because someone has good stats doesn't automatically make them good is all I'm saying... when ferguson sold van nistlroy he had 26 goals by January... but his all round game wasn't what he wanted and he was sold.. your eyes are they best way to judge a player... IMO ... just notice that people use Barkley stats from last season to tell me he's a good player... that's where my comments are aimed I guess..

i think in all our players' defence, this happens because we only have one man to aim for all the time, it may be a plan to slow it down to get more bodies in the box. bolasie is almost always guaranteed to best his man and get the ball in.

I've been saying this for about 2-3 years at this point. There is NEVER more than 1 or 2 players in the box when we are in a dangerous position. Bolasie has put in some very good crosses but the problem is that Lukaku isn't exactly renowned for his ability to win headers. Even tho he's a sicknote, someone like Andy Carrol would have a field day with the crosses that come in.

benteke, all day long. Though i wouldn't have gone anywhere near the price palace went. we just need midfielders to be more thrusting with their runs. it's why we need the playmaker really, so we don't have to solely revert to crosses.

He'd be great too. Both of them would be just stupidly excess *IF* thats the way Koeman wants to play. If he wants to mix it up, super. But we currently have one player who is good at getting the ball into the box from the flanks, one player who USED to be excellent at it, one player who likes cutting inside and shooting, one player who is just such an enigma nobody even knows where he would be best suited and one striker who likes the ball played for him to run on to.

You read those and there really isn't any way to gloss over how poor a summer window it was.

Couldn't watch the match on saturday but my one impression of it (bar being a crap result) was me checking on here after half time and seeing everyone calling for Bolasie to come off.

then after full time checking and seeing bolasie then scored 10 minutes later lol

Haha no idea mate. Just going on the thread on here. Thought it was funny that it had to be him that scored after Bolasie sounded like he was stinking the place out.

Hopefully be able to watch the match this week though

Bolasie In The Programme
Yannick Bolasie discusses his budding friendship with Romelu Lukaku in Sunday’s issue of the matchday programme.

The DR Congo winger arrived from Crystal Palace in the summer and has started every Premier League game for the Blues since making his debut off the bench in the 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion in August.

And Bolasie, who netted his first goal for the Club last weekend, has revealed he has been in contact with new teammate Lukaku for a number of years.

“Whenever I played against Everton, [Lukaku] would always ask me ‘when are you going to come here?” he said. “Obviously he has put in a good word for me because now I am here!”

“It’s flattering to have a player like him wanting you to join him. Rom is one of the best goalscorers in the Premier League and when he is on his game he is unplayable. If I can be unplayable as well then hopefully we can strike up a good partnership.

“I heard something like that floating about!” (on his rumoured 10-goal target). “I think it was more of a joke between Rom, myself and the gaffer. But knowing Rom, he’s a serious guy so probably meant it seriously!

“Personally speaking, why can’t I do it? It is certainly achievable, especially considering the way we play. That will definitely help me score goals. It was nice to get off the mark at Burnley. Even though it wasn’t a positive result and that dampened it a bit, it was great to score and I’m really looking forward to the West Ham game now to hopefully carry that on.”

Andy Johnson, a close friend of Bolasie after the pair’s time together at Crystal Palace, also features, with the former England striker explaining why he believes the winger is the perfect fit at Goodison Park.

Elsewhere in in Sunday’s matchday read, Liam Walshdiscusses the Under-23s’ flying start to the campaign and his personal goals for the season, while Under-18s defender Nathan Baxter plots his journey from Holland to Merseyside.

There is also a feature interview with former West Ham full-back Scott Minto and Dave Evans, West Ham correspondent for the Recorder Newspapers, provides the lowdown on Slaven Bilic’s improving side.
