I agree with the stats thing tho.... to an extent... you can use stats to spot a potential player for example if your a scout... you can see a good goal record in lower leagues etc... but like you say bad overall players can have good stats and vice versa... beckford... free transfer scored double figures ... so good player correct? No... his overall play and touch made him a championship striker even tho he scored more goals than some of the strikers playing in the prem for years. This is why I don't like it when people tell me ross stats from last year mean he's improving as a player

I get where you're coming from but I think there's a point where you have to take notice of stats. If Beckford had scored 30 goals instead of 10, it wouldn't matter how poor his first touch and overall play was.
Same with Papa Shango's example. If the ball keeps bouncing off a players backside 20 times a season and sitting up nicely for the striker to slot, I want that fat backside in my team.
Agree that stats don't tell the whole story in football though.

Oh yeah you can certainly use stats to potentially look at a player. Like if I wanted to sign a good passer of the ball i would look at passing % stats but as you say it doesnt tell the full story.

Joe Allen probably has a better passing percentage than say, Juan Mata, because Allen plays much safer passes, Mata will try a lot more glamorous passes that don't come off.

Same with goalscorers really. A player may score 30 goals but a lot of that can be due to the system as well. For example James Beattie was statistically a much better player than Marcus Bent, but Bent suited the system more.

Bolasie's stats are not good, but I think he adds a lot to a side with attributes that stats cant represent. he gives opponents something to think about with his pace and directness.

Thing is 25m, we should be buying consistency with that. Not a streaky player who looks good 1 game in 3 or 4. But he's always been a streaky player, so shouldn't really expect too much. I just think, with the money we spent we could have done a hell of a lot better. Seemed like a panic buy at the time.

He puts in some really good crosses, and our team should really be taking advantage of them. I hate that Bolasie is the only player that creates multiple chances every game when Geri is certainly capable of doing the same.
