Yannick Bolasie

You seem to be very protective of Bolasie.

There's no need. He's not being dismissed as hopeless. The issue is the price tag for a player with such a modest record and reputation for not turning up in games. Call me old fashioned, but I want as near as possible to top draw for that kind of money.
Who would you have signed Dave? Seems to me it's difficult for us to lure top players at the moment.

I assume you haven't watched him a lot at Palace then. As over his career, including his time here, he's created .......................22 'big chances'. twenty two! Bare in mind the quality of Palace' strikers as you mentioned, he probably should have more assists, but 22 'big chances' created is a shocking statistic. Even more shocking looking at them stats is the fact we payed that much. From 514 crosses too, tells you all you need to know about his crossing as well!

22 big chances created and 16 assists?Who were Palace's strikers? Sign em up! Unless the stats are jarg of course....

Could have been worse. We could have spent £150Million in the summer and hired one of the currently perceived best managers in the world, and still be licking our wounds in 7th place. "It's a funny old game."

They're not really though are they? For goalscorers yes, how about defenders? How do you define how creative a player is? Bit of a silly post that one.

No its not at all...

Two instances for you here...

A goalkeeper, lets call him Him Toward, He keeps a clean sheet in every single home game he plays during a league season. In these games his club was so dominant that he didnt have much to do during these games. In every away game he drops a clanger resulting in his team losing 0-1 every single away match.

Mr Toward kept 19 clean sheets in a season. He only conceded 19 goals. He also cost his club 57 points due to his errors.

Which stats are applicable to him being a good keeper?

Second example. Bannick Yolasie gets the ball on the edge of his own six yard box. He skins two opponents with a lovely pirouette, runs to the half way line, nutmegs the midfielder before Rabona-ing (thats the rainbow flick thing right?) over the full backs head and delivers a cross into the box, as the ball comes in it bounces of Boss Rarkleys backside into the path of Lomelu Rukaku who puts it into the back f the net.

Rarkley gets the assist. Realistically he did nothing but have a fat backside.

This is the problem with statistics in football. They simply dont tell the full story, there are way too many variables hence why having more possession means bugger all.

Statistics can work in some sports, in football however they are just not applicable as there is no constant for them to be worked off due to there being 22 players on the pitch all doing different things at different times during different stages of games.

Is the top goalscorer in a league/tournament always the best striker?

It was ridiculous money to get Bolasie but that's pretty much the going rate now unless you can find the rare player to come here with a release clause like Gana (and really there was no one who was a Villa fan who were all like oh no we lost Gana).

In the prem players are pretty much worth about 100-150% more what they would have cost about just 7-8 years ago. Williams would have cost what Dustbin cost in 2009 and Bolasie would have probably cost 12M in 2009.

10M doesn't even buy you this anymore

Nah, even this league isn't that out of whack. £25m being the going rate for a player like Bolasie is a few years off, IMO.

I wouldn't have prioritised another winger. I'd have used the cash to lure a decent Bundesliga GK like Horn and maybe tempt either Maximilian Arnold or Thorgan Hazard from Wolfsburg to come here and add some creativity to us.

I disagree. Good players tend to be involved in lots of goals over a long period of time. The examples you gave involve luck which doesn't hold over a long period of time.

It would have been a laugh if he'd blazed his shot over the bar after pushing Lukaku off the ball.
On the other hand.......He moves out of the way and Lukaku blazes it over the bar. Give the guy a bit of credit for being brave enough to push Lukaku out of the way..........AND FINISH !

They do, indeed they do. What statistic is there that represents being "involved" in a goal? Where does the involvement stop? Its not simply an assist.

Its not a game that lends itself very well to statistics, as I said there are way too many variables involved.
