He seems to be getting more criticism than anyone else though. He's a good player. Not great, but good.

He didnt buy himself and people want him to justify his fee, he will never justify his fee.

You know me, im being overly negative for bites, hes an alright player and he goes in my "first 11", hes very hit and miss, but he scares defenders and he whips in some good balls, ironically Palace would have been better keeping him cos a player like Benteke would score 6 goals a game from his crosses, but they couldnt afford that.

We have a squad full of inconsistent wingers, theres probably around 3 wingers in the whole world that arent inconsistent, it is what it is.

I know you're just after the bitez mucker. He is hit and miss but as you say there's very few wingers who aren't.

I like the lad.

Y
Palace needed that to get Benteke. Similar to when we got the Fellaini fee to bring James Mac in I guess. Like you say though, we were not exactly screaming out for a player in his position, relative to others.

We should have bought benteke .... much better player and actually had a good record before joining the dark side...could have picked up him and chadli.... you can't tell me that our squad wouldn't be better with those signings ...

No its not at all...

Two instances for you here...

A goalkeeper, lets call him Him Toward, He keeps a clean sheet in every single home game he plays during a league season. In these games his club was so dominant that he didnt have much to do during these games. In every away game he drops a clanger resulting in his team losing 0-1 every single away match.

Mr Toward kept 19 clean sheets in a season. He only conceded 19 goals. He also cost his club 57 points due to his errors.

Which stats are applicable to him being a good keeper?

Second example. Bannick Yolasie gets the ball on the edge of his own six yard box. He skins two opponents with a lovely pirouette, runs to the half way line, nutmegs the midfielder before Rabona-ing (thats the rainbow flick thing right?) over the full backs head and delivers a cross into the box, as the ball comes in it bounces of Boss Rarkleys backside into the path of Lomelu Rukaku who puts it into the back f the net.

Rarkley gets the assist. Realistically he did nothing but have a fat backside.

This is the problem with statistics in football. They simply dont tell the full story, there are way too many variables hence why having more possession means bugger all.

Statistics can work in some sports, in football however they are just not applicable as there is no constant for them to be worked off due to there being 22 players on the pitch all doing different things at different times during different stages of games.

Is the top goalscorer in a league/tournament always the best striker?

Sorry mate.... can't take you seriously... I stopped reading at "call him Tim Howard" "he keeps a clean sheet"

I agree with the stats thing tho.... to an extent... you can use stats to spot a potential player for example if your a scout... you can see a good goal record in lower leagues etc... but like you say bad overall players can have good stats and vice versa... beckford... free transfer scored double figures ... so good player correct? No... his overall play and touch made him a championship striker even tho he scored more goals than some of the strikers playing in the prem for years. This is why I don't like it when people tell me ross stats from last year mean he's improving as a player
