Yannick Bolasie

It seems clear that koeman has told our players to "get it to bolasie" in the hope that he will do something which leads to a goal.

He gets so much of the balls his way it beggars belief.

If you compare his games this season to Deulofeu in the same initial games last season then deulofeu puts him to shame.

To be fair bolassie shouldnt be on tbe pitch hes been so poor.
The tactic away from home, where he tends to basically play up front, seems to be using him to do the chasing that Lukaku wouldn't entertain.

Might as well have bought Shane Long.

Agreed, another damp performance all round, the whole point in splashing big money on a player is the hope that he'll lift the team and bring other players' playing levels up, that's never going to happen with this guy.

This is the whole issue with Bolasie. The fee.

He is a Lennon-esque type of squad player signing and if we had paid Lennon type money for him he wouldn't be under the microscope the way he is.

We would just accept his general crapness punctuated by occasional moments of sublime brilliance as being part of the "inconsistency" wide players are supposed to have in their DNA.

Though "inconsistency" was never an issue when Kevin Sheedy and Tricky Trev patrolled our flanks ;)

You know what I think?

If Niasse had been given the chance Bolasie has been given this season he would have contributed as much.

There, I have said it

What, be our leading assister and had created the most clear-cut chances in the Prem this season?

Come on Khal ;)

Stopptt, Toff......you know I think "assists" are the silliest of stats :p

And having the odd cross knocked into the net by another player does not even come close to compensating for the 85 minutes of anonymity we see from him every week :)

4 assists - all to Rom.

1 goal - assisted by Rom.

Set up countless chances for Rom (and others).

And he hasn't played with any consistency.

Could have had 2 assists within the first twenty mins of his Everton career away at WBA.

He should have far more assists than he does, i honestly dont think he deserves the criticism he gets.

We'll miss him immensely in January.

This is why I laugh at "assist" stats, Toff.

That goal you speak off.......Rom is credited with an assist but he did bugger all to create the chance or the goal.

Remember?

Rom was running with the ball and Bolasie actually pushed him off the ball so he could have a shot himself.

A jolly good goal and no mistake but if Rom is to be credited with an "assist" then it ijust makes a joke of it

He's not anonymous though Khal.

McCarthy was anonymous. Kev has been the past few games, same with Del when he's played and even Lennon the other day.

Bolasie was literally involved in every one of our attacks the other day that resulted in a chance (decent or not).

That's not anonymous.

Said it before....if he hadn't cost 148m and was one of a couple of wide players in the squad being rotated with others rather than being another inconsistent braindead attacker to go alongside Lennon, Deulo and Mirallas. Well, if that wasn't the case I wouldn't mind him.

As it is he is a reminder that we got some money to spend and we spent it bigtime on a player that wouldn't look out of place in any team in the bottom ten and would get laughed out of the clubs above us.

Posting decent stats for now but I prefer to judge him on actually playing the game of football throughout all those minutes on the pitch and it's depressing how bloody average he is.

Hopefully this squad overhaul actually happens and he becomes just a backup option to a very good attack.

Seems a nice lad though. Sorry Yannick!

That's not necessarily evidence of a partnership as such though.

Lukaku's 'assist' for Bolasie was basically a touch meant for himself which just ran into Bolasie's path.
One of Bolasie's for Rom was a little touch which led to Lukaku running half the length of the pitch to score, and another was him reacting quickest to a loose ball and putting across the goal line. Bolasie did really well, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't exactly a telepathic connection between the 2.

I don't think he's getting the best out of Rom in the same way Deulofeu was at this stage last season. It seemed like they were very much on the same wavelength and Rom could make runs knowing that the right ball would come. The ball that Bolasie absolutely rocketed at Lukaku on saturday is evidence that these two aren't on the same wavelength in that sense. I also think Kone brought more out of Lukaku, with his ability to take the knocks and do the donkey work. Again, there were more instances of those 2 being involved in nice interplay than I've seen from Rom and Bolasie so far.

Bolasie suits Koeman's style of play more than our other wide players, that's clear. That's why he's involved in most of our attacks, because the game plan makes him a very important figure. Is he 'better' than Deulofeu? In my opinion, no. Not even close. Is he more effective in our current style? Yes. Still don't think he does anywhere near enough to justify his fee or the fact that we want to utilise him so much.
