Yannick Bolasie

...I'm not sure how the injury happened, whether the defender made contact with Bolasies knee or if he fell awkwardly. I suspect it's the latter, he is such a big man and moves so badly at pace that he often slips over. It's almost as though he moves before his brain engages. The pitches are so hard and unforgiving these days he was always a likely candidate for such an injury.

Btw, the 'news' last night isn't news.

King literally had no quotes saying it would be a year - it's sensationalism.

Common sense with this type of injury is 9 months out - we knew that.

It was always going to be Sept/Oct by the time he was nearing a return, so it was always likely to be Xmas next year by the time he was match fit.
exactly. Also these injury's vary from player to player - not by much admittedly but a month here or there. Yannick appears to be a very fit lad with a positive attitude - those things will help later on as he starts his recovery.

Hopefully!

All the ones saying it's career-threatening haven't taken into account how strong he is.

Yes, it's bad. It could be very, very bad. But he's a big physical player and hopefully will be back to his old self whenever he does return.

...ah, I was asking if Martial collided with him or if he fell awkwardly. If your foot is planted it doesn't take much contact to bend the knee where it doesn't usually go.
Sorry, I hadn't noticed your post when I made that flippant remark.

Having had a few bad football-related hospital trips over the years, I'm always reluctant to watch injury replays back, but I have been wondering if the flailing style with which he runs had something to do with it.

Maybe he plants his legs at stressful angles, and finally someone has caught him at exactly the wrong moment. Makes me think about hanging my boots up

He was shoulder-barged (in fairness it wasn't a bad tackle) and his leg buckled underneath him

Apparently without setbacks he is looking for a January 2018 return

However realistically I've heard that this could be even longer and with fitness and match time needed once ready to play we wouldn't see him back to his best (if he ever reaches those levels again) until pre season 2018, by which time he would be 30 more than likely past his best and with much less pace.

I think sadly we will never see him as good as he has been again and will have to accept that we have lost out big time here

Aren't you a ray of sunshine on here today

Doesn't look good for the lad at all this, that length of time out and then you need your match sharpness,he's not old but he's no youngster either, worrying if he will come back to anywhere near the required level:(

Horrible injury to try and recover from.
For the type of player he is combined with his age, I doubt he will be the same player when/if he returns.

I am gutted as I was really looking forward to him playing against Liverpool (the ONE big reason I was pleased with his signing).

Hopefully we are able to go into the market again and buy another (or 2) quality winger(s).
