When you have no credible target, the lack of end product isn't really your fault as a winger. And no, I don't think anyone operating as a winger should be expected to score goals. Occassionally, but that's not the role. The role is to exploit or draw other players to the wide parts of the pitch. If they bring two people over there, fantastic. Move the ball to someone else with time and space to exploit other areas. Besides the fact that he started the sequence for our goal, he was a serious threat and created space for other players. Now if you've got one v. one, yes, you should run at guys and beat them every now and then, which he does. No winger beats their guy clean in the PL THAT often. His power and pace combination is rare and I think if we give him a bit more run and if Tosun can play, we will see a lot more production.

You also have no idea what tactics they are playing in terms of where they want him to cross the ball. I also don't think one can expect a winger playing against a good back to have the time to pinpoint crosses every second. Taking a quick look and putting it in a dangerous area is about all you can do. You have to rely on SOMEONE's ability to adjust to the ball a little bit. We literally have no one. Maybe Tosun will help.

exactly. I don't think some people can grasp what a true winger should be doing.

been watching waay too much of man city , every winger should now operate like Sane and Sterling. thing is they are surrounded by world class players, and fullbacks who are as good as wingers themselves.

we can not compare yannick bolasie to Sane and Sterling or salah even.

they are all given free reign and are backed up by much better players than cuco martina

Liverpool has two guys on Yannick every play.

Mate have you ever actually played soccerball? Like in a proper showdown?

Just checking but the lad has in fact just come back from a year long injury yeah?

Because the way some of you are hanging him out to dry already you'd be forgiven for thinking otherwise.

Not at all. I'm happy to reference his form before the injury as well.

And what's the point in that when he doesn't find a man with it?? We only get points for beating the goalkeeper, not full backs.

Am I speaking Aramaic?

See, the great Alan Shearer frequently talks about the beauty of crosses which are put into dangerous areas (usually whipped in between defenders and keeper) which are to be attacked by strikers. Bolassie has put several in on his return. Yes he can be infuriating but I think berating him for not 'aiming' at strikers is daft. Especially when by aiming at DCL (usually) the defender will get it.

A cross is only dangerous if it's aimed at someone, or into an area where it will be attacked mate. If nobody is even remotely close then its not dangerous, hence a poor cross, and a waste of time.

It can't bounce off thin air into the back of the net.

Winger gets the ball, puts it into dangerous area, no one there.

Experienced striker sees it, thinks "I know where to go next time that bloke out wide gets the ball"

Could be wrong, but Lukaku got on the end of a few of those 'hit and hope crosses' and scored.

Its all about the striker, if you're a winger you're told to get the ball in the box no matter what, he's doing just that, its up to the striker to position himself or to move to be able to get on the end of it.

It must be hard for our forwards to know when to make the run, simply as he does these step overs countless times.
Every time he does one of them our forwards have to hold their run, when he does finally run at the defender his pace can be blistering but our forwards are left a little flat footed as unsure when to make the run. I remember last season he put some great balls in and nobody there, and let's be fair lukaku was no slouch if a goal scoring opportunity was on a plate.
I would like to see him cut inside at times as I am sure he will draw countless fouls.

Matip and Van Dijk are probably two of the best aerial defenders in the league, loads of wingers will deliver great crosses only for the ball to end up headed away. Crosses generally have a pretty low success rate for even the best wingers anyway so Bolaise probably deserves a little slack on his deliveries (I thought most of his deliveries have been good), especially since he's just got back from a career-threatening injury.

I cant honestly believe some of the tripe im reading here these last few pages.

Get into most teams in the leage? Hahaha.

Turned Robertson inside out? Turned himself inside out more like!

I actually find it painful to see how much some of you rate him. Guess its coz he can do skills yeah?

You know what kinda team he fits into... Palace when he was with them. Bottom half fodder! Blindly run down wing and cross aimlessly for a target man!

So much for the new Everton under Moshiri.

Appointing Big Sam, acceptance of too many average players that are technically inept.

I hope im wrong and we can bring in some more actual footballers and begin to play some better stuff. We have some footballers here. Like Siggy.. Rooney.. Lookman. I want us to add to that and start playing some proper togger.

Experienced winger picks his head up before he crosses it.

Not when he has a defender on him. Got to concentrate on making a yard and be able to put a cross in. He has done that a few times for no one to be near his cross. When you have the space with no defender around then you can pick your head up. He usually has at least one defender to contend with and very rarely has the space on the flank so his aim is just to get it in the box and that is when the striker or on rushing midfielders have to do there job.

Not for me Yannick, step over and drag back to your hearts content, but please go and do it at West Ham where Andy Carroll might get on the end of something you aimlessly lob in on the occasions you're not getting easily shepherded into touch.

£28m lol lol lol lol

So what you're saying is, it's his job to aimless hoof it into a general vicinity in the faint hope someone will get onto the end of it?

Looking back at last season, his 4 assists and 20 chances created - 5 of the chances & 1 assist were against Sunderland, meaning the remainder of the games he only created 1 chance per game, & less than 0.3 assists per game for the remainder of the time he was fit.

As a comparison, Deulofeu created 4 chances in the same game & assisted 1 goal, yet was on the pitch for 50% less time yet Deulofeu was deemed not good enough for us?
