So what you're saying is, it's his job to aimless hoof it into a general vicinity in the faint hope someone will get onto the end of it?

It's not aimless if he is putting it in the box.....job done and over to the striker and other players to be there for them. When a winger gets the ball the striker and midfielders should be busting a gut to get level or slightly ahead of him expected the cross. That is how it works. Winger is also not solely about crossing but cutting inside to bring the on coming players into play.....he did that quite a few times against Liverpool.

Who would you have playing there out of our current squad?

Looking back at last season, his 4 assists and 20 chances created - 5 of the chances & 1 assist were against Sunderland, meaning the remainder of the games he only created 1 chance per game, & less than 0.3 assists per game for the remainder of the time he was fit.

As a comparison, Deulofeu created 4 chances in the same game & assisted 1 goal, yet was on the pitch for 50% less time yet Deulofeu was deemed not good enough for us?

Apparently available in January, would take him as an impact sub.

This pretty much sums up what Bolasie is

A cross is only dangerous if it's aimed at someone, or into an area where it will be attacked mate. If nobody is even remotely close then its not dangerous, hence a poor cross, and a waste of time.

It can't bounce off thin air into the back of the net.

I think you're being disingenuous - some of his crosses were fine, no one's attacking them. Admittedly he does belt some into orbit.

I guess the other angle is, are our forwards thinking "will this one come anywhere near the goal? Shall I make a run? Nah, stay back and defend for Sam"

DCL is probably the only one quick enough to get into the box for those sort of crosses, and he's been absolutely knackered for at least a month now. Looking forward to seeing Tosun/a fully fit DCL play with him.

It's aimless mate. The box isn't going to score goals, the players in the box will. If there aren't any, retain possession.

And i'd play Lookman in his place, at least he has space to develop & grow rather than the same old routine Bolasie serves up.

Whilst I agree our forwards ought to be pushing forward - as i'll reiterate, in his entire career, he has 32 goals and 40 assists total in 329 appearances (averaging 4 assists a season, and 1 goal every 10 games or so)

So either everybody else is doing something wrong or he is.

Maybe it's his master plan going awry? Not only are opposition defenders put off laughing their tits off, so are his team mates?

On a serious note, granted he's never been prolific but it's the exception that wide players are (Salah, Ronaldo etc). It's an interesting point of debate about assists. Did others benefit from knock downs from his crosses? Has he consistently played with strikers capable of converting chances? Is he just pyar tosh? The debate rolls on...

Judging by his passing and accuracy stats mate I'd assume that they are all just to nobody or out of play.

I'm just looking at the cold hard facts. He's not very good. Certainly not good enough for a club with our aspirations.

I'm not even sure a big target man and a decent full back will help - he's not the Pienaar type to play intricate triangles and give and go's, he's too selfish for that. And hopefully his crossing accuracy improves enough that a forward can regularly get on the end of it.

He is what he is - an average prem player but with pace. That alone is a commodity in this league (which says more about the state of the league). I'm quite clear we hugely over paid for him, but my view is I've watched him put in decent attackable crosses in the matches I've watched him play for Everton. And some howlers. I agree, he's not the answer but I think there are way more frustrating players in the squad (the soon to be departed Mirallas, Mr Schneiderlin, and Klassen to name a few) so can't get that wound up by him.

Criticising a lad that's been out for a year? Come on. He did well against the RS considering he's not up to speed yet, was involved in our goal put in a few decent crosses and carried a threat. Yes he can be erratic and try to many tricks, but we've missed him.

I think its harsh to be too critical because of what he has come back from but there is no doubting he still looks very rusty and thats being kind.

Oh how we have missed him. There must be a player of similar quality out there somewhere surely....and im not for one second saying we're missing 30+ aged pienaar, but in his pomp he was majestic.
Actually considering it was a tactic that worked for us, why in the hell has no manager since figured we need attacking fullbacks, Centerbacks that can actually defend and support the fullbacks...wingers that can then work with the fb creating space and time for the numbrr 10 to put the striker in.
