The problem with a lot of our fans is that there is only one of those stats that matters when it comes to defenders. Mistakes.

I actually think that, with the 4 defenders we have now, there is a good mix of qualities and still of an age where you could expect further improvement. When I look around the Premier League, apart from VVD, I don't see many defenders that I can hand on heart say they will definitely improve us; perhaps Laporte at City. Even extending that to the full backs, the only one I'm yearning at the moment is Lamptey at Brighton.

I think once everybody is fit and settled, Carlo will be looking to play one of Keane/Mina with one of Holgate/Godfrey.

VVD sadly passed away according to the media, so basically there is no one who would improve us.

Seriously though, would you look at the squads of the RS, City, United, Spurs, Chelsea, The Arse, Wolves, Leicester and say there are any central defenders who you really want in our squad, other than VVD and Laporte?.
 
I think Mina only adds to our set piece dominance so I’m all aboard the Yerry train. Yes, he has his mistakes but more often than not he is very capable and has partnered well with Keane this year. That midfield in front of them makes a world of difference (as I said last year when we had that horror show in the middle).

Soyuncu and Gabriel are good players, but not so much better that i’d want to swap Yerry for them. Mina just needs to be consistent. His best is as good as anyone in the league but he can switch off as well.

Ancelotti likes to have players compete; it iws good we have options. As VVD's recent passing (according to media accounts) demonstrate, the depth of the team is key. Everton has built a strong base, with Holgate coming back soon

No idea what that's all about, but we have a few players now that you'd want on your side in a fight. Yerry, Allan and Godfrey all look like they'd be up for it. Think Holgate is too tbh.

We're going to have to get a nickname for Godfrey. I can't type his name without thinking of the old guy from Dad's army which doesn't exactly live up to a tough guy image lol
