The last 5 or 6 games he has been magnificent. Like one of the best CB's in the league magnificent. Looks more confident too. The old adage of he can't play against better teams has gone too, with Arsena,, Chelsea and Leicester. All sorts of different strikers to face, and he's handled them all very well.

Whisper it, but he could be starting to return on the promise he's hinted at.

Definitely suits the deep-lying, backs to the wall tactics. If we're deep and his job is simply to win headers and defend, he's in his element and actually a very good defender. Especially alongside Keane. Great to have them for set-pieces, attacking and defending too.

He's going to be hit-and-miss if you try to play more expansive football though. He was as culpable as any during our run of conceding two a game.

Hes playing well, Yerry has it all, i think hes a massively naturally gifted defender both in physical attributes and potential. Yerrys difficulty are like Pickford in decsion making and holding composure, they are his areas of development and he is improving. what has helped i think is playing with four center backs we are compact, and the two lads playing at full back are very good at standing lads up and not letting stuff in centrally. Allan and the Duke have helped shield to. Really we have a good team defensive system at the moment. Even with with Allan out. Yerry is part of that, i hope it builds his confidence.

Part of me thinks that Keane, Yerry in particular got a massively bad press for the last few seasons, but if im being honest, i think it wasn't all their own doing, i still shudder at our wet wheetabix midfield last season.

Yes lots in that.

Mina himself has lots of natural gifts. He is very big, and well built for his size too (unlike someone like say Matip who is rakish). He is enormous. He's also quite quick for a bigger defender and is ok on the ball too. He's beginning to read the game better. His obvious weakness is on the turn. But it's quite a unique "package" he has.

To me it's taken him a couple of years to get used to the PL's physicality. To me he's improved each season. The last half a dozen games or so, he has not just been good but outstanding in a lot of them. He can impose his game on opponents.

You are right re fullbacks, it has helped having players closer to him. That will be an acid test when they are lifted, though I think Holgate may stay at right back for a time. I think him and Keane are starting to develop a partnership too, which is also a positive, as before they didn't have one at all. I would hope (and believe) Ancelotti will be loathed to break that up all the while they keep doing well. We've missed that since Distin/Jagielka really.
